Some background. Right now my day job is a Corporate Operations Trainer for a franchising company. The job is pretty good, and I have no issues with it. In fact, It's been pretty stress free. I train all of their corporate managers, and any franchisee buying into the company. Sometimes I'll travel, and they pay for the hotels, food, etc.

It's a decent "cushy" job where I don't have to worry about much. I have growth options here as well. I even know I'm often looked at for next opportunities. The job is also pretty secured. I still had it all throughout covid. Due to the nature of the franchise, it was one of the businesses that stayed open throughout the pandemic. In fact, as most companies that was able to stay open, it had record profits.

The new job would be a senior management position in the hotel business. So, like, do I really want to get into the hotel business? Not really. However, it is significantly more money, and better benefits.

Right now, my role is stress free. I don't really have to worry about anything anymore in terms of what happens at my workplace. This new position will no doubt be a lot more in depth, more stress, as I'll be directly held responsible for some aspects of the business. Which I have done before, I have managed multi-million dollar businesses before. But I got away, as its stressful. Does the new positions significant pay increase help tip the scales though? It will be a 20-35% pay increase than what I'm currently making. Just at the base level, not including any bonuses etc.

My GF is in Europe for two weeks, and hard to discuss it with her atm with the time differences, and her out having fun on vacation. So, I need to discuss it with someone xD

What everyone's thoughts? Should I take the plunge? My worry right now is, I'm very contempt with my current job. I like my peers, and my bosses. Leaving companies altogether is a huge step when you aren't hating your current employment. What happens if it doesn't even work out? Then I'm out of a job altogether :O

Anyhow, just need some people to talk to.

If you are truly happy where you are maybe you should discuss with your superior what has gotten your attention. Stress free or close to it and more money can't be a bad thing. As far as taking a different job I changed for far less. The unknown is always what makes change tough.

I think you should remain with your current job since there's job security and contentment. Remember the grass is always greener where you watered it

….I agree with Fred, really…do you feel as though you could talk to your Manager/Superior about the offer you’ve had and explain that you have to consider income as well, as cost of living is very high for most of us atm etc…..let them know how much you enjoy your role now and how much you enjoy working for your present company….and how much you would like to stay…they may not be able to match the hotel salary offer right now….but they might be able to look at coming closer to it than you are right now….and you can all discuss a possible increased role as well as salary, also…?…as you say, there is planned growth for you in the company….?…no better time to discuss that than now…?…

…I really would chat with your bosses….as with a bump to your salary, the role you have now seems to balance perfectly with your work/personal life and your whole lifestyle….and that can be quite a rare thing….
….good luck…❤️

I mean, the "not really" answer as to whether you want to go into the hotel industry is all you really need to hear. Money is important but it isn't everything. If your current job takes care of your needs and you aren't unhappy doing it then take that into consideration, because not going home stressed out and miserable every day is more priceless than people know. It may be more worth looking into the advancement opportunities with the company you already work for.

the question is this: Does money matter that much to you? if so, you might consider it. but if stress is not something you would want to deal with then.....

Am also following through on what everybody else is sharing and this is my area of expertise somehow. Analyzing everything you have shared shows that you are a high-achieving person and thank goodness that your job was not affected even through the covid period when most of us hit the rocks badly. But again if we do not challenge ourselves then there will be no room for growth. Hence the dilemma you are in of you considering leaving your current job.

The answer to this though subjective lies within you. What have you laid out for the next 5 years and currently are you moving towards those personal goals? These are some of the personal development questions that will help you find the best answer. Above all, it is very important to love everything you are involved in aside from the incentives that come with them in terms of jobs.

When we have exhausted all our strength, the greatest regret we tend to face is the WISH factor where we hoped to have done certain things in a particular direction. So analyze this and am surer the pieces will add up.

If you are happy with your current job and you are not particularly interested working in the hotel industry, why change? You may have better opportunities in the future.

If it were me I wouldn't take the new Job. I would be contented on the existing job since it's a very established one at that survived in the pandemic. I wouldn't consider the new Job offer as I am quite certain about the fate of the new job.

I just went through this, actually. I was promoted at my last job from a position with no stress to a position that paid more, but I ended up working 60-80 hr weeks and so stressed out. I eventually ended up having to take a leave from work because the stress was affecting me so much that I literally passed out in the middle of the night when I got up to go to the bathroom. Stress has such a terrible affect on your body, and the money wasn't worth it. I decided to leave in October, and started a much lower stress job in March.

If you're happy and your bills are covered, I think you should stay where you are. :)
