Grab a practical application study Bible and start reading it. It will take a couple of years. Don't rush it. Honestly seek God with your heart, mind, and soul - He will meet you there. It is really not any more complicated than that.
Once you know the Spirit of God has taken up residence within your soul you will feel compelled to move to do the Lord's work; this will bring you into contact (naturally) with others that have a desire to serve/help/love others with the power of God as well. Though not done for personal satisfaction, it does bring a joy to one's soul like no other.
Through any storm of life, even though you will still feel pain on this earth, you will be faithfully anchored and to the depths of your soul even in the midst of any pain there will be a burning flame of joy/thankfulness in your heart.
You'll see people and circumstances with a different perspective - with a Godly/Biblical perspective ... this brings peace, forgiveness, love, and grace to you and through you to others. It also enables control freaks to stop being so dominating, it enables mousy people to stop being walked on, it enables critical people to give a measure of mercy to others because they recognize and are conscious of their own shortcomings and are not ashamed of them but are inviting the Lord to shine light on those weaknesses and to make them strong in their weakness.
A spiritual life with God takes the focus off of everyone else's shortcomings and refocuses them on to you. This is the opposite of the world as the world likes to point fingers at everyone else, too prideful to focus on their own shortcomings. So everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else and no one is changing themselves. Pridefulness, arrogance, not wanting to bow down to any authority --- No, the world is much to 'good' for that type of thinking ... look at how well humans are running it. :ninja
So my bottom line advice to you is not to focus on others, their behavior, or how they treat you. Focus on seeking God and your own behavior.
Blessings to you on your journey. It is a lifelong journey.
