The war is all about gaining resources in that country so the West can make a buck. Most people don't know this or refuse to acknowledge it.

This article just proves the real motive behind people in power these days...they DON'T EVEN CARE about their own people, it's all about profit.

The title sounds like a religious thread. ;)

No doubt about it, War is big business. Even if you look at WWII, which we usually view as a 'just' war, it was started by a country seeking to grab power, control, influence, and wealth by any means it could.

No cookie as there is no real plan on how to implement your idea.:p At least here in America, we have to vote.

The first stage is education: everyone needs to understand the problems facing the world (societal, environmental etc) and everyone needs to understand how these can be overcome.

Once people are enlightened about the problems and their solutions, progress could be made.

I think it's unfair how you changed the rules tho, you never mentioned implementation. I want my cookie.

This I don't understand...

Western governments spend billions of dollars a year in drug enforcement and interdiction; not to mention related costs in such areas as the courts, corrections, health care and rehabilitation.

Seems very much against our interests to be staying in Afghanistan solely to secure opium supplies.

Also, in reference to the article, Coalition troops are not treated as cannon fodder. Cannon fodder refers to soldiers that are regarded as expendable in engaging the enemy. So I suppose in that case, the ANA would constitute as cannon fodder.

I miss when this forum was dominated by extreme right-wingers. Although, this sudden wave of extreme left-wing sentiment has made me realize one thing...

When both sides of the political spectrum are taken to their extreme, they just sound as hyperbolic and reactionary as each other.

It's a two way thing though. In war, people get killed. No one forces the soldiers to join up. Of course I have a lot of respect for their bravery because of this but I really dont get how there seems to be a huge inquirey into just about every soldiers death and people bleating on about how it shouldn't have happened. You go into a war zone where people with guns and bombs see you as the enemy, there's a good chance you're going to get killed.
I agree 100%.

I have to laugh at these anti-war activists. Yes war is petty and sometimes for the wrong reasons but if you didn't fight against those who sought to threaten your life then you're pretty much a just a sitting duck with a target on your forehead. The reality is this "give peace a chance" mantra may happen for a while but if peace ever comes it will not be eternal. Human nature wins out every time. Worldwide ever long peace is a pipe dream.

As someone that hopefully gets to fight for my country,

Why would you " hopefully get to fight for your country? " Wouldn't it be better to serve your country and be " prepared " to defend it rather than keeping your fingers crossed and wanting some war to begin so you can live out your dream?
