Cool Facts

If you have any interesting facts on science post them here!

You burn more calories eating celery than celery has in it.

Mosquitoes are attracted to the color blue twice as much as any other color.

Antarctica is the only continent without reptiles or snakes.

Did you know that there are 206 bones in the adult human body and there are 300 in children (as they grow some of the bones fuse together).

The ears of a cricket are located on the front legs, just below the knee.

Termites produce about 52% of the atmosphere's methane gas.

Re: Cool Facts

The 45 million sheep and 10 million cattle in New Zealand make for a lot of burped methane—about 90 percent of that country's methane emissions. For comparison, livestock are responsible for about 2 percent of the United States' greenhouse gas emissions.

There are more atoms in a bucketful of water than there are bucketfuls of water in the Atlantic Ocean.

If Everest, our highest mountain, were placed at the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean, its peak would be more than a mile beneath the surface.

About 70 per cent of the Earth's surface is water. By coincidence, 70 per cent of the human body is also water.

Flea's can jump 130 times higher than their own height. In human terms this is equal to a 6ft. person jumping 780 ft. into the air.

The highest temperature produced in a laboratory was 920,000,000 F (511,000,000 C) at the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor in Princeton, NJ, USA.

The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

Due to gravitational effects, you weigh slightly less when the moon is directly overhead.

A duck's quack doesn't echo.

The pupil of an octopus' eye is rectangular.

*I cannot,, for certain, validify the accuracy of all these facts.* lol

I thought perhaps it would be cool to have a thread dedicated to scientific facts, you can include any branch or type of science you wish. It can be as simple or complex as you wish, but it has to be related to science.

Human, Space, Math, Medicine etc..

The Moon does in fact rotate, just in synch with the Earth.

That says specifically Rotation, that what it means, that's all I am saying, this is not the scientific argument thread.
