Sci Fi or real?

Technology provides more and more conveniences for us. Actors in movies and shows can be animated. TV's record all of our shows, phones tell us all of our important events, tell us the time, and do all of our math for us. We don't need schools, there's home-schooling and online colleges. We don't need to know how to spell, we have Spell Check. We don't need to see anyone, everyone's on a network site. Cars are able to park themselves and it won't be long until they drive themselves. Trains are automated and we have automated flight, just not available commercially, yet. We have automated tellers, but we don't even need to go to the bank because there's direct deposit and everyone has and accepts a debit card. Hospitals have equipment to monitor patients, give them medication, and keep them alive.

Everytime one of these pieces of technology doesn't work, we go to pieces. Sometimes it makes me wonder: are we slaves to technology? Will humankind become obsolete?

I think because we have become so reliant on technology then yes the problem is when something doesn't work we don't really know what to do. I mean every now and again my Internet goes down and I'm straight on the phone trying to find out what the problem is because I am reliant on the Internet for finding out what's going on etc. I will say though that newer technologies are replacing the older ones. Like say if my TV blew up, I would just watch TV online. Easily done these days.

I'm not against technology in any way and to be honest the world is a better place for it because we had to progress to get out of the stone ages of things like the video recorder, dial up internet, home telephones, myspace, walkmans. Move onto stuff like Blu Ray players, broadband/cable internet, mobile phones (the newer models even that can do everything except wipe your arse), Facebook, CIL, Twitter, iPods.

Used to be if the puters went down at work we'd all still be able to do other work. Other than my admin. filing, I don't know think I would have ANYTHING to do if our computers went down. If one program went down, no sweat but no puter.....really nothing to do. If we had money, which we don't now, I could make purchases, but I can't even pay by check 'cause that's a puter program too.

And the numbers at work. It's not just puters, if I had to call the 25 or so frequent numbers I call w/o having them programed, Pro 1=Karen, etc., I don't know what anyone's number is, just their programmed number.

Yup, we are fiercely dependent on technology.
