For all the moms and dads out there, how bad was your school shopping list?

I just spend 125 dollars for both boys this year!! That is TOOO much to have to spend. SO, was yalls as bad as mine?

FYI- that was only their supplies, not their clothing

my parents bought me a backpack in 9th grade and I used it maybe twice. the rest I took from school (paper and pencils). I didn't have one of those graphing calculators like all the kids did.

what did you buy that costs $125 :dunno ?

Wait til highschool or college.

We need TI 84+ calculators for calculus, and they are 80 bucks alone. Then we need our 6 binders/dividers/paper for 6 classes. We need blue/black/red ink pens and #2 pencils.

My brother needed a laptop for college- 800 bucks.

I havent bought theirs yet but for 3rd grade she needs:

2pkg pencils, 1pkg pencil top erasers, crayons, white glue, scissors, 2 pkg loose leaf paper, 4 spiral notebooks, 4 folders with brads and pockets, 1 large box kleenex, ruler, and supply box

For 2nd grade she needs:

2 pkg pencils, 1box crayons, 2pkg wide ruled paper, 1 wide ruled spiral notebook, 1 bottle white glue, small supply box, 1 large box kleenex, 1 jumbo eraser or pencil top erasers, ruler, scissors, 2 writing tablets.

I know last year, I spent over $100. It just kills me how much you have to pay

Also, in the girls school from K-3rd grade, the teachers make up a calendar and each kid in the class has to bring snacks for the day for the whole class and drinks. It adds up.

it is a huge hassle.

The candy and toys are for the treasure box. If the kids are good for the week (or get a certain amount of stickers) they get a toy out of the treasure box. Not sure why I had to buy candy.

never had to worry about school supplies - my mother bought them :D

and since i never really used pens - didnt need them. the teachers got over the fact that i would only write in pencil once they saw my first test ( especially math :eek:wned )

and i only used maybe a max of 4 1/2 binders for the entire 4 years of high school ( of course there was reuse ) and i never really kept papers, thus the small binders - only the important notes were saved, and tests... other papers were placed in the binder's front plastic thing, and emptied every 2 weeks, sorting the notes out, and removing all else.

oh, and never doing homework helped immensly as well ( except for english - had to ... damn them teachers ... nah, really, they were ok ... i just never did homework really - i always got the material in class, and never needed to practice. it just stuck for the test, and the more important notes ( math ) stayed around ... ) ...

so, maybe 50-75 smacks was good enough for my school supplies. getting more notebook paper ( college ruled, never wide ruled ... more lines to write even tinyier(sp?) to make the teachers not happy :D ) was no more than $10 every 2 months or so..

so it wasnt really hard for me in school ... now, my brother ... lol, that fucker got everything he needed ( and he did really well in school ) but most was unnecessary in my opinion. but hey, do what ya gotta do to get where ya wanna go. ...

:dunno

I tried to spend as little money as possible in high school, since I was mostly buying my own stuff (not my parents). So I reused binders and saved notes, and took advantage of every deal I could.
Art school was a completely different case, though. I'd spend money on new pencils or prismacolour markers (like, $5 for ONE) instead of food. Art school made me POOR. If any of your kids want to go to art school, be prepared to have a hole blown in your pocket, or for your kid to seriously go hungry.

Hmm... so I'm in college and so far I've not really bought all that much. I got a laptop that I paid for myself for only $600 then a few spirals which cost me a total of like $1.50 a few pens which costed about... $4.00 and that's pretty much it. my books and shit is what's going to cost me money... thankfully i have a loan that is going to cover my tutition, books, rent and meal plan.. for the most part. I'm not paying that much right now.. after I get out of college I'm going to paying and paying for a few years or so.
