NO. i think if something that drastic happens where a kid needed to be paddled at school the parents should be contacted so they could discipline accordingly. and possibly something could be going on at home that maybe needed attention.

I do not think it should be allowed. Not because I am one of those "feel good" parents, but I have seen too many public school teachers with anger issues to feel that is a method of punishment that should be bestowed on all teachers. IMO

I used to get them when I was in school, but I don't know that society will allow for them these days. You can't even give a kid an old fashioned spanking now days without getting accused of child abuse or something to that extent.

I went to a relatively small school, but more than one teacher got into a lot of trouble for putting hands on kids in an abusive manner. I had a science teacher put me in a head lock once...awkward...but hey, I had to crawl out that window, my friends dared me!!

Tough Call,

At first I would say No, Because you cant gurantee that a teacher or whoever would not get out of hand or abusive in the process..

But yet at the same time.. There are to many parents out there who are not taking the responsibilty's of parenting and maybe if the School did have those policys, Some children would Finally learn that there really are consequences to their actions.

no but something has to be done , i think the real bad ones should be sent to bootcamp so the kids that want to learn can.;)

I think in theory it is a good idea, but there are so many people out there who dont know how to handle power. Seriously I got a paddeling for smiling at lunch because I had gotten into trouble 10 minutes earlier for doing something I didnt do.

From personal observation, the kids I grew up with that were spanked (either by parents or by authorities) have grown up to be better adjusted and productive members of society than that kids that were not spanked.

I can think of only one example out of dozens that turned out to be great and wasn't ever spanked, but even she has her moments.

I vote for spankings. People always talk about how bad kids are getting these days, but what has changed in the disipline area in the last 25 years or so?? It seems fairly obviouse to me. The more adults try to be friends instead of parents, the worse kids act. I'm not a child development guru, but I can see what's obvious.

Absolutley NOT. a teacher at a school or principle Dont have the right to lay their hands on kids in that way. if the kids get out of hand in school and the parents dont do anything then it should be on the parents. Kick the kid out of school. Send them to a bootcamp like Homer said or an alternative school.

They used to have it when I was younger at school but it then got outlawed. Personally I have no problem with it, some of the kids these days are little shits running riot and I think it will cut down on this.

Paddling isn't a harsh enough punishment in my opinion. After a certain point, the kid gets used to physical punishment, and nothing really happens. So, he'll eventually get the mentality that if he does something bad, all he'll get is a smack on the ass and nothing else.
That, and the risk of damaging their mental development. Exposure to excessive physical punishment at a young age is what creates the mold for criminals.
However, punishments like taking away privaleges work just fine. You know, loss of their recess privaleges or whatever. Instead, they get to do some menial and tedious chore that would bore them tears (maybe even literally, if the crime fits the punishment). Then, time would be taken by the teacher to find out what motivated the student, and they would analyze their behavior in how to fix it.

The same thing happened with the US Prison systems in the 19th century. But I don't want to bore you guys with trivial US History. :D

Call the parents and ask them if its ok. I used to request pops to get out of in building suspension.

At my daughters' school, they have a form you fill out in the beginning of the school year asking if it would be alright to paddle your child if necessary.

When I was in school it was allowed and yes I did get the paddle once. Once was all it took, and I straightened my butt right quick.

If it was allowed now days I would have to say I would approved. If my kid did something wrong bad enough to be paddled, which he has(but they dont paddle any more), then I would would say go for it. It sure beats me taking time out from work to go down and have a conference with the principal, Which I have on more than one occasion. I say paddle him.

So in short I would say I was PRO- Paddling.

Each time I have put yes. It hasnt happened yet and I hope it doesnt. One is in 3rd and one is in 2nd grade. I just hope they know better than to behave and not act like fools. Cause if I have to take time out if my day to go have a conference with the teacher or principal, Im gonna be one ticked off momma!
