Whoa. This is news to me. I didn't even know he had cancer. RIP :(

He was fighting it before the last election.. that's why it he lost so much weight. It's why he stepped down.. Also so Jim tells me that he had a press conference last week or something like that stating he had been diagnosed with a second form of cancer.

that press conference was about a month ago, he looked almost dead back then, was a shock to see him so thin, frail and hardly able to walk...i think deep down we knew despite his tough fighting words he might not beat this

politics needs more Jacks, he genuinely cared about people, about families and was not scared to challenge the status quo, he was sure a decent, honest man

Thanks for clarifying when it was.

Yes, politics does need more Jacks.

...the last time i had dinner with Jack was just before the last election and all was positive that he was getting well again and was once again gaining back some weight...

this is a very terrible loss to Canada and to us his friends and family. He was a lovely man and if you could have been in his company you would have, as i did, feel his goodness, his honesty, his passion for life, family and Canada.

My mum called this morning crying to inform me he was gone... it is a very sad day.
