So do YOU think people, whoever they are are entitled to food then? Heck, even death row prisoners get a last meal!
I only speak for where I live. You Brits can be as socialist/communist as you want. ;)

No, I don't think people should be entitled to a free meal just because they want it, or even just because they are hungry. I don't think people should be entitled to free healthcare or gov't-subsidized healthcare just because, either.

America does and should take pride in her compassion for those who can't do for themselves, but we're allowing our criteria for "can't" to encompass what used to be called "won't." People should feel humility for being unable to take care of themselves. They should have to prove they can't pay for something instead of expecting it as a free entitlement. They should not only be required to, but want to pay back every penny of largesse granted to them in an hour of need. A good American would normally not accept repayment, but should be able to naturally expect the effort or repayment.

Schools should have budgeting, goal-setting, and self-dependence as part of the curriculum, at least until it is restored into the fabric of society.

America needs to back away from the entilement mentality that is overtaking our culture and return to the old balance of independence and voluntary generosity.

Compassionate fella, arn't you? Ever thought about joining Amnesty International?

Oh, and by the way, we're a pretty right wing country here, Labour is more right wing that the Conservatives, these days, hence why I vote Conservative. ;)

Why to only those in need?? We want to have universal healthcare - healthcare for all who want it. No pre-care work requirement; no qualification like food stamps. Why the double-standard?

Actually, don't food stamps have a maximum income you can make before you can't apply for them? Or something like that?

And mostly the reason why I would say only to the people who need help is that I don't think the government needs to do everything for us - health care, yes, because it's stupid how much you have to pay if you're uninsured and you need medication, but with food, if you premeditate (not murder) what you're going to do with your budget and cook things at home instead of eating out, you could really do fine on a low income with food. But if they actually try to make ends meet and they can't (or if they can barely make it), then that's where I would give aid to them.

Everyone is entitled to free food yes, the same as everyone is entitled to free medical care but from what i have heard in the states you have to have insurance to be able to see a doctor so it doesnt really work out that well does it?

When this free food thing comes into play is it free for all or just free for those who cant afford it because then you pose the war that will begin with the people that are able to buy food and those who cant, what makes a certain person worthy to make that sort of decision, who gets the free food?

Then of course you have the people who grow food and sell it to make a living so they themselves can buy food.... its a never ending process.... it sounds good in theory but you have alot to consider if its the right thing or not.

You realize you're saying Donald Trump can claim free food as well, don't you? Where do you go to claim your entitlement to free food? How much are you entitled to?

The laws, and benefits etc. are different in the US, to the UK where I and others are. I agree with Peter though, unemployment benefits should be used to buy food to survive, if you don't have a job to earn money. We obviously have the NHS, universal health care, so we get free medical care through our taxes we pay. It's a brilliant system, and I'm glad we have it in place.

Im saying what is good for one should be good for all, this is the general argument that will be brought up if something like this were to happen.... Donald trump works hard or not used to for the money he made, how does he not have the same right to free food as someone who spends all thier government cheque on drugs
