I work with a man who had the surgery 2 years ago. He was tall, weighed about 380 lbs., and was always out of breath. He didn't tell anyone he was getting the surgery. When he came back to work, he had lost enough weight to make him look very different.
He wasn't ashamed to tell anyone who asked how and why he did it. His doctor basically told him if he didn't lose the weight... he'd be dead. He tried to do it through diet, but he was so used to eating such large meals and not exercising that it didn't work for him. He then looked into the surgery.
He now rides a bike when weather permits for miles. He goes running. He entered a marathon this past summer and finished it. He talks about the amount of food/beverages he takes in now compared to before. He's actually become a healthnut of sorts.
This type of weight loser I would definitely congratulate.
