I listened to Lamar Alexander this morning on MSNBC and he just made my skin crawl. He was against letting the Bush Tax cuts that helped the top 1% expire because it would hurt the recovery. But he was against extending Unemployment benefits even though it's a similar argument, it would help the recovery if unemployed people receive unemployment benefits. This is the perfect example of the Republican mindset. FUCK YOU little guy. We can't afford to help you. We can only afford it when it helps the poor rich. It's beyond me why anyone who makes less than $70k per year would even consider a party who only worries about the best off in society.

The biggest lie he told is that the Republican Party is interested in passing bills such as an Energy Bill. The GOP has absolute resolve to stop the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress from passing anything unless it's conceived, originated, and vetted by the GOP.

Yeah I know, the Democrats do the same thing. :smiley24:

Edit: I was listening to Obama's speech to the Urban League. He spoke of being criticized by you-know-who, Republicans that he should be solely focused on "economic" issues. This group of criticizers will not acknowledge that Health, Financial Reform, and Education are all long term economic issues that effects the country as a whole. The problem for the Republicans is that it means helping everyone, not just the well-off.

Yeah, those Bush tax cuts only helped the top 1%... except that they help me and I'm nowhere near the top 1%, not even close actually. Those tax cuts also did away with the marriage penalty... so guess who is getting screwed over again, oh that's right... regular working people.

But hey, don't mind the facts getting in the way of your rant.

They are going to let the tax cuts for the top 1% expire, but they are going to extend the tax cuts for the middle class. So only part of the law will be allowed to expire.

That's the absolute first I've heard that... source?

You'd rather them spend poorer peoples money than money that filthy rich people can easily afford?

Here's a concept... let's abolish the entire fucking tax code and move to the FairTax. That way everyone pays taxes at the same rate. But no, the Obama administration wants to raise taxes on the "rich" and then they were talking about adding a VAT tax on top of the ridiculous tax rates we pay already. Yay.

I would rather people be able to keep their own money. The rich already are carrying the load which is proven yet ignored.

There was a post today in the local news where the economy is already starting to stall and in part it is due to the uncertainty. You all make it like the rich just tuck this money under the mattress when the reality is they spend it.

You never will get a liberal to understand trickle down. They still want to trickle up. Last time I looked that did not work too well when I took a piss :D

Who are you to decide what the "filthy rich" can or cannot afford? Just for clarity's sake, in the United States the top tax bracket pays nearly 40% on all income over $311,950 for married filing jointly, single person, or head of household... and $155,975 for married filing separately. All this is going to do is make the "rich" spend less money, which will hurt the economy in the long run.

Because it's a total fallacy and to be honest is pretty much the stupidest economic theory to ever have been spewed by the selfish elites. If trickle down actually worked, your country wouldn't be in recession right now.

You keep eating the bullcrap the wealthy elites serve up to you, it must be oh so delicious.

It just seems to me that you would rather the money come out of poorer peoples wages. Personally, I couldn't give a shit if some rich guy had to cut down from 3 to 2 Carrabian holidays a year if it meant not making poor people suffer even more than they do.

Well you seem to think your opinion on what they can and cant afford matters so what makes your opinion any more special?

Or how about we cut the fucking wasteful spending, stop spending money we don't have, keep taxes the way that they are or move to a consumption tax, and actually pay down the national debt. Fiscal responsibility without fucking people over, novel concept I know.

Well you seem to think your opinion on what they can and cant afford matters so what makes your opinion any more special?

I didn't say what they can and can't afford. I stated that the "rich" will probably just save their money because of higher taxes, which will lead to hurting the economy more.

Who's raising taxes?

ObamaCare, taxes being raised on the "rich" by letting the Bush tax cuts expire, and ObamaCare is set to introduce 21 tax increases including Indoor tanning tax, special needs kids tax, tobacco, earthly withdrawal from an HSA, medical itimized deductions cap, and the individual mandate excise tax. But no, absolutely no new taxes. The last President to promise no new taxes and then go back on the promise was George H.W. Bush... he served one term.

Let's play semantics. :thumbdown

How come when taxes go down they call it a tax cut, but when they take them back up again, oh that's not a tax hike. That's just returning them to blah blah blah blah.

You want taxes to return to something? Let's return them to pre-Wilson.

r peop

Let me get this straight, you'd rather cut down on spending on healthcare than raise money from bad habits which cause health problems in the first place, such as tanning and smoking? :24::surrender

We are in a recession for a whole myriad of reasons. Most of them which the govt contributed to.

We would not be going broke if the govt was not so corrupt and would spend what they have coming in versus borrowing up the ass.
