I think that generally our leaders do not act in emotion. There are too many steps in the process to achieve their goal and the emotion does not last long enough as rash decisions do not see the light of day.

Politics and emotion go hand in hand as people get angry with the way things go. So I think the public as a whole will be full of emotion every time they go to the polls.

Our leaders act on what.. nationalism? Selfish desire?

I actually agree that today's politicians do act on logic. But do you think that their logic is limited to nationalistic ideas. Also, they still have to appeal to emotion of the people. Then the emotial masses wonder why politicians lie so much... :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

What do you think motivates a state-leader to act in the way they do? Also, do you agree with this way they act?

Well I think nationalism is a good thing and that most of our leaders want to better our country. Currently I have huge problems with our current administration and certain choices of our last administration. A country has to have nationalistic ideas and act on those idea's because of religious factions such as the Taliban is there to destroy certain countries. Also other countries such as North Korea that want to test long range missiles that break UN law.

Generally speaking I think the safety of our country is what motivates our leaders to make decisions. I don't always agree, but in an act of self defense such as what 911 called for I'm in 100% support of.

Countries simply wanting more land just to expand their empire?

What about manifest destiny?

These hurt other countries simply so that the nationalistic, imperialistic country could gain power and land.

Also, do you agree with the idea of Mutually Assured Destruction?

Agree with it or not - it was and is a forgone conclusion to full scale nuclear war.

Land expansion is a thing of the past. That is not to say it won't happen again in the future, as I'm sure it will, but will not be very successful.

As far as manifest destiny...expanding our nation across the continent is the best thing we could have done as a young nation. It has given us a strategic advantage economically and lent a hand in our military might.

Nationalism and imperialism do not go hand in hand.

MAD? Fuck yea. Nuke them till they glow and shoot them in the dark is my standard answer to anybody who thinks they can pick on the US. lol Seriously though, I do. It keeps fear in the country at the other end if they want to fire nuclear missiles at us. Even better is that we can now destroy said missiles before they reach us and they will be in worse shape for it.

Immigration into the USA "specially illegal" is a burden on tax-based resources that cost taxpayers billions. It continues the growth of demand for cheap labow and low wages exponentially. Take into consideration the growing poverty rate, and poverty's tendancies to raise crime rate, and it is indeniable that U.S. Citizens are getting hurt.(

An influx of immigrants won't increase the crime rate.

Not...worried...about...North...Korea.

Mmmmmmmmmmkay.

Completely passing up the opportunity to milk THAT for all it's worth, it has to be said that unless you live in Africa, you or someone in your family is/was an immigrant. And we are ALL residents of planet Earth, who cares what PART of Earth you live on? It's all one planet. It's all the same. We're all the same. Homo sapiens, baby. Just the one type.

Also, it bothers me more that people whose first language is English and have spent their entire lives conversing, reading and being educated in that language still can't grasp the fundamentals of that language (spelling, grammar, punctuation). Makes my head hurt. (But then, so does narrow minded senses of entitlement, so there you go.)

Foolish people let their emotions get to them, and drown out reason.

There should be military on our southern border, with zero immigration from mexico.

like it or not.......heres my 2 cents
(im going to skip on being "PC" and grammatically correct........and hell , i probably mis-spell some shit to)
opinions are NOT emotions, they are thoughts not feelings

emotion has no place in law, legality, politics etc. it is a personal and or private issue/matter/belief/thing and should be kept to ones self unless expressing it to another individual who is willing to be "emotional" with you and again should be kept to yourselves and private

regulated legal imigration can be a good thing if done correctly (which the U.S. has not done), illegal immigration is always bad.

peoples from other countries who migrate here legally are given opportunities that existng U.S. citizens are not afforded and or entitled to per the government and most if not all never repay it (which costs you" the tax-payer" billions of dollars each year), unfortunetly our government has yet to learn that charity begins at home (unless of course your a politician ...then charity starts by you receiving money from lobbyists). everyone who comes here whether legally or otherwise is here for basically the same reason...Greed!!, to have a better life for themselves and or there families, not to contribute but to receive, and everyone realises that the U.S. is the best place to do it, becuase we stupid americans and our even more unintelligent government officials give/spend way to freely on things to try and make us feel better about ourselves or our prosperity and dont think about where the money went untill its to late. why is it that during tax time and budget balancing puerto rico is never mentioned???? why is it that the tax payer is squeezed more and more so their money can be frittered away on non-productive "members of society" and or illegal immigrants who get more welfare for each child they cant afford to have??? why is it that if your illegal and dont pay taxes your still protected under our laws sometimes more-so than a citizen or a legal immigrant???

illegal migration taxes multiple resources in this country which are already strained (which again costs you "the tax-payer" billions of dollars each year) and again you will never see a "return" on that involuntary investment, not to mention the billions that are sent to other countries to bring more illegal immigrants here. having a baby in this country should not entitle citizenship to the child or the need for both parents to stay here to care for the child,..........
i could go on and on but no matter how screwed up our country the system or the people who run it are.........it is still the best that there is so love and work for productive beneficial change or shut the fuck up and get the fuck out, becuase im tired of people who whine about shit but dont do anything about it.

they walked here, they can walk back, enough with the free bus ride and lunch

and that is my logical non-emotional opinion (explitives are used to emphisise my opinion)

either way i have to go back to work...ta-ta

that is so wrong.....most americans have the best lifestyle on earth, wanting for nothing.....yet someone from a 3rd world country goes there for the simple fact that his children wont starve to death,or die of disease...or even be tortured by an evil regime...and given time, the children of these immigrants will contribute in a huge way......they'll be told what life might have been like, they'll be reminded of the opportunities they have...they'll go the extra yard in getting qualifications and an education

and going back to dana's food comment, its not as stupid as you might think........if all of the supermarkets are closed where do you get that carton of milk?,my guess is from a job stealing greedy immigrant who opens his business 24 hours a day to pay his way and taxes....and isn't it great that if you get a take-away or eat out that you have all of these styles of food to chose from?

and dont forget this......america was built on immigration, that why you have irish-americans,italian-americans and latin-americans etc

Yes, America was built on immigration. Legal immigration. All my ancestors came through Ellis Island. Not under a fence. They all learned to speak English and did not suck off of government policies.

I agree that those who are here illegally should be shipped out and made to go to the back of the line and wait their turn like everyone else. Also the policy of having a baby here makes that baby an American should be reversed as it's been abused since implemented.

Legal Immigration makes this country strong. Illegals do not. imho.
