Record Arctic Melt

it seems obvious that not all countries will experience the same climate changes due to this.

or will it take the atlantic conveyor to turn off and effect us all before america takes responsibility, will discuss it with the rest of the world, and wakes up and smells the coffee?

Hold on Debbie, how is the US not taking responsibility? It's not the US's responsibilty to manage 3rd world countries like India, China (yeah, I said it, so?) and the rest of Asia, Africa and the Eastern half of Europe?

I say 3rd world because I can , neener.

But I digress: We're not exactly making leaps and bounds on the environment, but I think most of this "global warming" is a natural occurance. Have Humans accelerated it? Perhaps. But the Earth has had several huge warmer and cooler cycles over it's existance.

I'm just saying it's a natural cycle we're going through and until either the ice caps melt entirely or 50% of the earth is covered in ice, I'm simply going to chalk this up to hysteria, which by the way is a great Def Leppard album!

The only real progress that will be made is when people quit pointing fingers, and start being accountable, as a human race.

Who cares if Al Gore said this, or we hate Al Gore. We all need to be better stewards of our environment. That is my point. Wanting to be kinder to mother nature should be a priority regardless of Al Gore.

Totally disagree with you on the Al Gore thing. But I've always been kind to Mother Nature. Packed out all my trash when I go backpacking, try to get a fuel-sipping vehicle as my commuter car, and we recycle more than anyone on my street from what I can tell.

I think all the civilized world is doing what they can to reverse the evil that has been let upon the environment over the last couple hundred years. It's the heavily populated areas such as India and China that need to get their acts together. I really don't think they care what happens as long as they're making money right now.

What matters in the end, is what we do. At least to me. That is only an opinion though.

sorry ron ,i didnt mean to insult, but the US will not sit down and discuss reducing emissions with the rest of the world.
so much so that the eu walked out in bali last month through sheer frustration.
you do produce more than your fair share of co2.
unless the US and europe lead by example why should china and india tow the line,or are we going to tell them they cannot have cars and behave like the "first world".

Ok, so we're going to clean say North America...are we going to sit back and just let the others slowly ruin the rest of the planet? I think we as a people are doing more now than has ever been done to be environmentally friendly.

I mean, they're referred to as a 3rd world country for a reason....

Well there is an enormous amount of pressure being put on the European Union, and the Asian continents to clean up as well, we are not the only country on the bandwagon, and yes, technically if we are going to be the beacon of democracy for other countries, we do actually have a responsibility to lead the way environmentally.

i think 20 years ago we could refer to india and china as third world but times have changed.

all those little bicycles in china have long gone.

ive been to india four times in the last six years and the changes ive seen over that time are amazing.

if the changes continue at this rate ,and we dont all pull it together then we really are in the shit

The US stonewalled because the EU is a joke, Debbie. They're slightly more impotent than the UN, another limp appendage if you will. I still think it's a sad day when the UK joined the EU. IT was like you guys were throwing in the towel.

But I digress yet again: This country is not producing any more CO2, CO, or any other "green-house gas" than any other country per person. So many things have been improved here, health-wise, over the last decade or so that it's actually a joy to live almost anywhere coast to coast. Sure, we still have several cities that have damn near daily smog alerts...but that's also because the threshold for the smog alert declaration has been lowered as well. States like California have mandated, and correct me if I'm wrong BadBoy, that 1% of all vehicles sold there have to 0 emission vehicles by 2010....and that increases bi-annually I think. That's huge if you think of how many vehicles are sold there everyday!
