Reasons behind site being dormant?

I get this place has been in existence for a long time now and checking at the posts and threads here it seems to me to have been over 8 years ago which indicates that it has been dormant for a very long time now and I would like to know the reason for it being left alone but the members of the site?

Simply put, the site has been offline. I also no longer own the original domain.

It may simply cease the activity as the administrator said, there are sites that gradually die also due to the lack of traffic and new users.

I think the site was inactive for a long while but when it was online it really had active members
