I can't stand the singing/dancing shows or the cooking ones.

The ones I like:

Big Brother
Amazing Race
Pawn Stars

The only ones I watch are Hell's Kitchen, Project Runway, Jersey Shore (shush, it's a guilty pleasure, LMFAO), and The Voice.

I stopped watching American Idol this year and most of the others are just too annoying. I have watched some of Gene Simmon's Family Jewels, though.

I like some.

I'll watch:
Come Dine With Me
Four Weddings
Project Runway/Catwalk (The UK version - although I don't think they've stopped it). Sadly I don't have the tv channel it is on anymore *sob*
America/Canada/Australia/Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model (I don't have the channel this is shown on either :( )
The auditions for Britain/America's Got Talent.
Chopped
Cupcake Wars

And a few others.

Unless it's reality reality I HATE THEM... What do I mean by reality reality?

Ace Of Cakes, the show chronicled his cake business... With humor but no drama thrown in....
Ghost Hunters, while the first few seasons were kind of sketchy with the Brian drama & that other dude that I disliked ummm Andy... (he was a fucking know it all) they stay pretty issue free and the show chronicles what they really do.

I can watch Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn or maybe Flip This House but I know they are full of shit. The rest I hate. All contrived bullshit parading itself around as actual events taking place on camera. The repo shows are the worst, if you think that shit is recorded live on location just shoot yourself.

I especially hate how TruTV advertises itself as "Not reality...Actuality" when their shit is the most unbelievable there is.

So you believe in Pawn Stars, the negotiations that happen when someone brings an item into, that the experts that are brought in, that the final price determined are all scripted? Why do you think this?

The aspects of the show that seem to be manipulated to me are the owners' instant knowledge of every item that is brought in. Yes, because of their business, they probably know about some things, but not everything and I think in many cases this info is researched for them. The amount of personal interaction that goes on between them could mostly be scripted but I don't know and have no reason to automatically suspect that it all is. When Chumlee buys a "Mark Lindberg" book, it could happen or it could be scripted. Don't know. Most of the entertainment aspect of this show is that what you are seeing is real. If it is all scripted this would diminish my pleasure in watching the show.

Axis- you can go on Pawn Stars website and see how it's done. You email them items you're interested in "pawning" and they tell you when to come in if they think you have a good story. It's not like they have cameras in the store 24/7. They pick what they're interested in, have the experts ready, and have the people come in probably a couple days a month.

hell, even the talk shows on NPR do the same thing, you call their 800/888 number and they then determine the worthiness of your call and then they call you back

I go to Vegas a lot on business and have talked to several locals who tell me the owners are never there, unless they are filming. I have no doubt you are right, but don't believes this diminishes the authenticity of what is being brought in for filming. As I said, if all of this was scripted, I'd be unhappy. Whatever leads up to the exchange, I believe what occurs during the exchange is authentic.
