I think it's cute how Americans love to think their NFL is REAL football..

English football has been around much longer, so you can't claim seniority.

Australia Football has harder hits without the girly padding. So you can't claim roughest.

Galic Football has much more complexity, so you can't claim creativeness..

That being said...... GO COWBOYS!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

NFL evolved from Rugby which evolved from real football. I also find it funny how Americans can claim it's real FOOTball when most of the action dosen't actually involve kicking the ball. That said, the Aussies arn't much better, referring to Rugby League as football!;)

Rugby isn't football.. and we don't refer to it as football... Rugby is Rugby..

In my OP, I was referring to Aussie Rules Football (aka Australian Football).

All Aussies I met refer to it as football though I believe in the South they refer to Aussie rules as football. Queenslanders are a breed apart and think that Aussie rules is a sport for wimps!:eek:D

Anyway, I'm now waiting for James to come in this thread with all guns blazing! (pardon the pun!):D

ok

rugby.......better known as rugby football........students at rugby school were playing football when webb ellis caught the ball and ran with it........the birth of rugby union

australian football.........dont they tend to call it aussie rules?

american football.......a mixture of football and rugby........i prefer the term 'grid iron' for it

football.......worldwide every team has the letters f.c. behind its name........meaning 'football club'........so stop calling it soccer.......they dont have 's.c.' behind the team name

This is the thing which makes me laugh. The guy picked the ball up and ran it into the goal! In my school, you wouldn't have invented a new sport by doing that, you'd have probably got your head kicked in by your team mates!:eek

Pray tell, what in American "football" remotely resembles real football?...(English Football) of which football worldwide is based upon.

The type of play resembles nothing to it.

If it was called American Rugby that would seem to be a more appropriate name to me.

Could someone please explain that to me? And "Soccer"? WTF is up with that? Wasn't the sport football already in existence and so known before as "football"?

blame the british press pre war for the term soccer

^ It is a shortening of the word association isn't it Skyblue?

And it's just a word to me, I think that the term football can be shared, doesn't have to be one way.

You can understand why the Europeans get so annoyed... I've invented a big round bowl with glass in it and wire, you put stuff in it, like bleach and paraffin and then set it on fire with a match, i've called it a light bulb, what you know as a light bulb now will be called a Blongo... Silly analogy, but not far from the truth

Seeing the Americans adapted rugby by dressing their players in full body armour, I'd love to know what kit the'd use if they adopted this sport from us too!:D
