A firm 'NO'
It's obviously not in the child's nor the mother's best interests to allow a child rapist to have any further influence in their lives.
The young man gave up his rights when he committed rape.

and that is how perfect our system is lady's and gentlemen
now if this judge made a mistake like that, what else has he done
I think the rapist should be beaten with a mallet.
I have seen cases where the 20 year old and 14 year old fall in love and then the parents of the 14 year old get pissed and prosecute, but I don't think that is the case here.

I'll admit I comment before finding out the details on a lot of things
I'll dig into it if it really strikes me but I have found even after reading the details later findings change the truths on some things

When you think of a rapist, it may been different than what actually took place per this incident.

As mentioned, not enough info to know exactly what happened between the 20 year old and 14 year old, but considering the original sentence, I'm guessing there may of been extenuating circumstances other than a man forcing a girl to have sex with him (which the term rapist implies). It was statutory rape. Not saying the guy didn't know better, but different than a forced sexual encounter.

Also notice that the family wasn't complaining when it was ordered that they should get child support. I would want NOTHING to do with the man, including his money, but apparently for whatever reason, the girls family thought otherwise.

Do LOVE the fact that the family is now trying to get restitution instead of child support.

Be curious to see how this plays out.

People have some gall

As I said, they didn't have any problem taking his money for child support.

Think about it. If you want to be as far away from that man as possible, would you want a check from him with his name on it every month?

I have witnessed a similar event
a man and wife (married) have a child. while the wife is in the hospital with child
the guy has been telling her that everything is great and then the baby comes out
husband runs to mom and dad and dad saying I'm not ready for this , and hid dad says I'll buy you a truck if you divorce her, and he did it. The dude is in his 30s.

Odd case for sure.
IMO if you dont have any father rights then one shouldnt have to pay child support.
If he committed a crime then punish him accordingly..the 3 to 5 they were going to give him....Odd to change that to pay child support

So, finally saw an article today that stated that the charges WERE statutory rape. To me, that makes a difference.

Definately a difference. How much mentalitiy difference does 17 year old and 11 months have from an 18 year old and 1 day?

Of course that comparison cannot be used for all circumstances, but it should indicate the situation should be further looked at before yelling rape of a minor blah blah blah

He was 20 and she was 14, from what I read. BUT statutory rape is a consensual act. It's definitely NOT the same in my book.

And I'm not being funny, and it's definitely doesn't excuse statutory rape, but 14 year olds these days don't look 14.

Some do, some don't, but the issue is really more about intellectual maturity and the ability to comprehend consequences and responsibilities.

It makes a difference in my mind. I would have to decide on a case by case basis because all 14 year olds are NOT alike. It's an interesting delimia (sic) for sure. If I was paying child support I would want to see the child......... especially if I had consensual sex with the mother of my child.....
