So I am driving through town on my way to a fast food joint with my mother in the car. I see a cop car coming up from behind so I pull over to the shoulder area he speeds by and makes his left at the next intersection.I go up my remaining half block pull into the fast food joint use the wifi for a minute as Mom was getting a download a few minutes before that stated she needed a wifi connection....and its the perfect opportunity how to show mom how to use wifi on her phone when she is out and about.

Ok so we do the download and leave {about 2 to 3 minutes}...leave the fast food parking lot and are heading out of town...We go the same way the cop went later {left at that intersection} come up over the hill and see about 8 tp 10 cop car lights on about a quarter mile ahead...looked like a disaster zone such as when there is a bad wreck etc. So I pull into a major parking lot to turn around as did the two people behind me. The instant I come out of the parking lot I am pulled over...the same for the people that also turned around...Not sure where the cops were hiding but there were plenty of them. The cop that comes up to me tells me I am being stopped for avoiding a sobriety checkpoint !!!...No fucking where did it say there was a checkpoint ahead !!!
I tell him it looked like an accident zone with all the lights over there and I saw a cop speed that way just prior.
I am tied up for about an half hour while he discusses with his superiors regarding me.

One of the other cars the people are forced out of the car...then they were going through it....Meanwhile other traffic that was going the original way I was stops and pulls over to the shoulder...they dont even go beyond where I am as they see all the cops ahead{quarter mile} and where I am at...Now traffic is backing up to where someone is going to get hit from behind when they come over the hill !!!...Luckily it didnt happen though as people successfully backed up to the top of the hill.

I am tied up for about 20 minutes while he discusses with his superiors on what to do with me for avoiding a checkpoint !!
He lets me go..and says he isnt going to give me a ticket for not wearing a seat belt...I say thanks...but I had it on I had to take it off to get to my wallet of which he saw !!

What a joke !!! last nights town mission was to bust people for avoiding a checkpoint{then search a car} when they had to way of knowing it was a checkpoint...as it looked like a bad accident ahead that was going to be impassable {usually when there are 8 or 10 cops cars ahead you dont get through}

Fucking shit pisses me off.

Checkpoints them selves piss me off...but this shit above is just pure abuse and trickery .
I am not holding this against all the cops as they were just doing what they were told do to...but it does confirm why people have been losing respect for the police...Sad but true.

They do the checkpoints here fairly regularly. I agree a bunch of police cars with flashing lights looks like a bad accident. My daughter got stopped at one yesterday as a matter of fact.

I have been through a few here. Its usually a couple cop cars with a lane made with lights. With a blind spot technique so you roll up on it unaware. This was a quarter mile past the hill with several cop car lights ahead....which means go another way essentially. It should have been marked check point ahead ....but this was not the case...in addition to the big parking lot there were places to turn as well before the cars ahead...led to gravel however and take you out of town....I am curious if people living on the gravel also "avoided" the checkpoint.

Give them your drivers license, and as long as your tags are good, tell them to have a good day and leave.

ALWAYS keep a voice recorder in your car, and anything you stop for cops, turn it on. It can be a life saver down the road.

Kind of hard to be on your way when they have your drivers license....besides they would merely chase you then taze you when contact was remade. This is Missouri Joe.

Looking at the stats for Missouri,it would appear that the police are saving a lot of lives by catching drunk drivers.

Too bad that people still persist with this selfish and stupid habit, and too bad that they flee when they see a checkpoint. Means that occasionally, the actions of innocent motorists get interpreted as suspicious. I find when dealing with the police, the length of time you spend at the roadside pretty much depends on your attitude towards them. It's not that they like to mess people around, but excessive belligerence is a commonly used [but totally ineffective] ploy to distract and discourage the officer from doing his job.

I hope that they caught every last idiot that saw the roadblock and tried to run. If they stopped a few unlucky people who looked like they may be fleeing drunk drivers, but hadn't actually been drinking, no problem. I'm sure that most of them would be reasonable enough to give a few minutes of their time to help the police keep the roads safe.

I'm kind of with the Man. I would rather avoid the whole mess and probably would have thought it was an accident. It's stupid to have a checkpoint with no good reason. There should be probable cause. I remember my ex-hubby getting a ticket for not having a litterbag in his car one time. Mind you this was a Ferro, however you spell it. You practically had to sit on your ass to get in the car, no room for a garbage can. It was on one of those spot checks going to the......wait for it.....Goodwill Games....LOL.
