She had wide-spread lymphoma. She succumbed in December...we just threw most of her meds away...but kept the things we might have to use in the future. It's just synthetic morphine.

Taken orally once a day, methadone suppresses narcotic withdrawal for between 24 and 36 hours. Because methadone is effective in eliminating withdrawal symptoms, it is used in detoxifying opiate addicts. It is, however, only effective in cases of addiction to heroin, morphine, and other opioid drugs, and it is not an effective treatment for other drugs of abuse. Methadone reduces the cravings associated with heroin use and blocks the high from heroin, but it does not provide the euphoric rush. Consequently, methadone patients do not experience the extreme highs and lows that result from the waxing and waning of heroin in blood levels. Ultimately, the patient remains physically dependent on the opioid, but is freed from the uncontrolled, compulsive, and disruptive behavior seen in heroin addicts

She was dying, man...they gave it to her to make her more comfy at home...and she had the morphine drip the last 24 hours of her life, and if ya wanna look THAT up, too, you'll see that morphine drips actually speed up the process.

Sorry, but the anti-narcotic was the first thing that came to my mind about Methodone. I didn't know it was useful for anything else, sorry. I also didn't know you were an RN. You might not want Kungfu to find that out...[edit]I see it's too late...

i wish I could get into it..My workstation has Chatrooms blocked, I could get around it, but it would set a alarm off and alert out Techs and I do not think i can hack them all!...lol
