tell me a story ;)

So a friend of mine is in town and when he's here we hang out in this one particular bar. Anyway, Sunday I went to watch the Steelers game with him. During one of the stoppages, he went out for a smoke break and while he was outside, this guy comes in and asks for a Smithwicks. Not so strange except he pronounces it "Smith Wicks" and as most know, you pronounce it Smitt-icks. So when the bartender said, "oh do you mean "Smitticks?" the guy got a little assey with her saying, "People pronounce stuff differently! Don't judge me!"

Then of course because I apparently have a sign on my forehead that only weirdo's can see that flashes "talk to me," he starts going on and on about how it's really sad that our city is so wrapped up in the Steelers...who gives a shit about sports...how his mother in law (god rest her soul) had a major impact on him and would never tolerate it because it's just a game. Then he started telling me all about her...to the point where he actually teared up. Now I'm a bit intrigued that this complete stranger just poured his heart out to me. It happens often, but this was sort of your rough and tumble biker looking guy...not the sensitive share your feelings type. Had I judged this crazy book by it's cover? Had I somehow inadvertantly put a crack in the wall of this seemingly tough guy? As he stared off pensively, I wondered what he was thinking about. Was it the mother in law that nurtured him?

...and then he asked me...

"Do you have any reefer?"

:|

Most people would not look at me and think "yes, that's the one person in the room that I should definitely ask about reefer." Secondly, people still call it reefer? Third, I felt a little bamboozled. Fourth, my friend just happened to come back at that point and I told him he was no longer allowed to leave me with the nutjobs to go out and smoke.

The End
