Wow what a match up, two GTOs, both unique. One has a big 5.7L V8 and the other has a 3.0L Twin Turbo V6. One is RWD and the other AWD. One is Japanese and the other is American. Both have 6-Speeds and weigh relatively the same. The Japanese Mitsubishi GTO VR4 (known in the good ole USA as the 3000GT VR4) vs. the American Pontiac GTO. Which has the more style, performance, and tuning potential?

1999 Mitsubishi GTO VR4 (3000GT VR4)
3.0L Twin Turbo 6-Cylinder
320HP
315TQ
6-Speed Manual
3780Lbs
AWD
0-60- 5.3 Seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.8 @ 100.3MPH

2004 Pontiac GTO
5.7L 8-Cylinder
350HP
365TQ
6-Speed Manual
3730Lbs
RWD
0-60- 5.3 Seconds
1/4 Mile 13.8 @ 104.1MPH

I would get the 3000GT.. more stylish IMO, and its AWD. Same track times.. more fuel efficient.

aobut the comment of feul efficient... im not sure, but with 2 cyclinders less, wouldnt it need more feul to keep up with the 8 cylinder? :dunno

speaking of mods:

the 3kgt has twin turbs, but the gto only has its v8 to run paces with...

HMMM LETS THINK...

:dunno

unless it comes with a poweradder STOCK...and if it doesnt, even better for the gto

pontiac gto:

newer
bigger engine w/ more cylinders
more hp
more trq
same speed manual (not exactly the same mt that i know of)
lighter
different wheel drive
same 0-60 time (3kgt got a 4 second headstart :D )
and in 13.8 seconds, it goes 3.1mph faster

all without any mentioned power adder...

now i cant think of any reason to do the comparison between the numbers, but hey, something to do... :dunno :tard

Ive had 2 ramairs...an i raced ALOT of 3kgt's an owned every one of them...stock for stock that is...an im not sure why but the ramair runs a 13.4 when the gto, an the camero both run 13.8... :dunno i think it might be the slight weight difference an a lil diff gearing in teh tranny...

By looking at the stats I'd say the Gm GTO needs better traction (or better reaction time by the lame ass driver) so it will hook up better. ie: 1/4 mile time. at 104. it definitley has the better low end torque. Only needs slicks and I bet you would see a flat 13.00 or high 12s. maybe a short throw shifter and a tunning chip would bring it even closer to it's true potential. My neighbor has a GTO. He is pimping it out. It's disgusting. :barf

Jus needs to lose some weight..look at those numbers....3730 almost 3800 lbs... the hp to weight ratio isnt very good thats why its not running any better numbers...but your right slicks, short throw, an a chip an it would rule....... :rock

I used to want a VR4 before I got the Stang. Just couldn't find one for less than $20,000. But I am way happier with the Stang than I think I would have been with the VR4. I just love the sound of a V8! And the good news is that I gots some Magnapacks on the way!!!!! Gonna go for the self install and hope I don't fuxor it up.
