Queen's Christmas Speech

To be fair Pudding time, people are allowed to have their own opinion and have done so far, respectfully.

I've been quite civil when talked to in a similar manner.. Disrespecting my Queen is disrespecting me, and in turn will receive disrespect from me. I didn't attack anyone personally. I attacked his comment, and did so quite accurately..

Can I start making posts of how I think Jesus is a piece of shit and expect everyone here to take it with a grain of salt? Then not disrespect me for disrespecting someone they hold close to themself personally?

I didn't mean to "attack you personally", I was merely pointing out that I though the whole royalty thing was an archaic hold over, but whatever.

Fare enough, I know most people these days don't regard the British Royal Family very highly. I know that some in the family have acted fowl and tarnished the families reputation, but the Queen I personally regard as one of the most outstanding human beings in all of history.

They are not useless. The Royal Family has complete control of all nations within the British Empire. They have no need to exercise these powers though, as the democratic governments they have established in these nations have succeeded quite well. Monarchism is a form of Authoritarianism, yet all 16 nations of which the Queen rules are democracies. And 16 other nations have become republics during her reign. That's half of the British Empire, and did she fight to keep them within? No. Sounds extremely democratic to me.

I could say the sammmme thing for you, scott. Matter of perspective, really. Plus, if i did say somehting like that to someone in real life (which I would) and they use violence against me, it will just make them look like a Neanderthal, thats all.
 
The way this has got a bit heated...let me put this in perspective a bit. Personally I have no problems debating the rights and wrongs of monarchy but this isn't what this thread was about. The Queen is our head of state, whether we like it or not and this was about what she said in her speech which I thought was pretty damn good personally but I have no problem with people disagreeing with that and saying why here.
To put this into perspective, slagging off the Queen unnecessarily to many Brits is like slagging off the Pope unnecessarily to Catholics. She isn't just a head of state like George Bush is, she's the head of the church of England too and unlike other power grabbing heads of state is in her position through no choice of her own. Slagging off our monarchy is the equivelent of disrespecting the Stars and stripes to you guys with the difference being the Queen is a person not just a symbol. Please bear this in mind. I'm only too happy to debate the rights and wrongs of monarchy but in a different thread to this. I personally have no problem with anyone having a problem with monarchy or the Queen, just please do it in the right place. And yes, it might get a bit heated given what I've just explained but I have no problem with that either unless it leads to personal attacks and I haven't seen any of that in here at all which is why I don't really see a need for mods to intervene.:)
 
im not a royalist ,but liz is the head of MY church,has a great sense of humour,has more experience of life than all of us and has knighted parkinson and given kylie an obe...so shut it if your going to diss my monarch:p
