Q: Should men hit women?

If a woman is being physically violent to a man he should just walk away. Simple as that.
It isn't any easier for a man to walk away than for a woman to do the same thing. That's why abuse is an ongoing issue.

My ex-wife was a certified nutcase and without provocation she would throw punches like nobodies business, or frying pans and anything else she could get her hands on. I never did strike her back but believe me it came damn close a bunch of times. Why didn't I leave you ask. Well I had a daughter that I loved very much and I wanted to be with her. Back then a male didn't fight for custody of the kids regardless of how spun the wife was. It just didn't happen. In any event it took a long time before I decided I had to put myself first and I left. If I was to relive those days in all honesty I probably would just shoot her, do my 10 years in the slammer and get on with life. It was the darkest period of my life and one that I would never repeat. When Mrs.Guyzerr and I got hitched 29 years ago I told her if she ever took a swing at me one of two things would happen.... 1- she wants to fight like a man she'll get the end result like a man 2- I'll leave and there wouldn't be any coming back. To date she hasn't taken the swing.

As someone who has been abused, I understand. But I don't think the answer to violence should be violence. And typically a man is physically strong enough to walk away without damage from a woman. Not so when the tables are turned.

Though one must keep in mind that the women who are doing life in prison are not there because of the "five-star" meals. When it comes down to it...

...both men and women are responsible for walking away, but we cannot expect that to happen in a world where being stubborn is plentiful. Instead, we must be responsible for ourselves in that aspect.

Trust me when I tell you that a woman can make a man bleed just as easy as if it were the other way around.

I haven't thought about those nightmarish days for years but now that I am I should have just gave her 1 good smack. I'm sure if I did she would have changed her ways. Retaliation usually makes shit stop.

There is a lot of sexism in general society when it comes to this sort of thing. Take the case of that woman who found her husband was cheating and chopped his penis off. The way the media and others portrayed it, it was all a big laugh.
Now imagine if it had been the other way round, a man had found his wife cheating and chopped up her vagina. Society would have crusified the man for it!

Abuse is not acceptable - but one hit from a man does not count as abuse, especially if it was in defence or as retaliation to violence from the woman, and viceversa.

That's kinda the way I'm thinking now.... but.... if Mrs.Guyzerr took a swing at me one of us would be forced to move immediately and it wouldn't be me. I'm too old and don't have any fight left in me.

You are absolutely correct. The double standard is definitely being upheld even in these days of equality.

Yes but you guys get Viagra and the ability to sleep around and be awesome for it. And you don't get PMS. So we're even. :D

I suppose that's better. To carry around the 'woman beater' reputation comes with a stigma, and it definitely doesn't sit well with other men.

I mean, in male prisons they attack other inmates who have committed crimes against women - assault, domestic violence etc.
However, in women prisons you are applauded for carrying out a murder on a man - you become popular almost. It's really backwards.

Nail on the head there also Peter :thumbup

violence is the last refuge of the incompetent -- isaac asimov.

i'm a dog trainer and work with pack hounds. my dogs never get hit or kicked more than once, never very hard and only to get their attention when they are doing something that is going to cause somebody to get hurt or something broken that you didn't want broken for discipline they get a heavy scolding and a time out.

i've never lost a dog to a vehicle and the worst biting incidents in 50 years were two little kids that got nipped in the face by young dogs they tried to hug when nobody was watching them close enough. the time i was with the dog, the father and i both knew that we were at fault and not the child or dog. the other time was one of the family dogs and i wasn't there. anything worse, the bitee always had it coming and the few times the police were involved, they agreed.

a similar approach to child rearing worked extremely well for my brother and sister in raising their kids. one's a police officer, two are engineers and the fourth is a journeyman plumber. none have police records and they all drink -- responsibly. we were raised in a family that didn't spare the rod. fortunately it was pretty trivial and we all, including our parents, have grown past it instead of passing the dysfunction down through the generations.

i firmly believe that violence starting at the verbal level and escalates all parties involved are responsible for it. yes, there are times when men and women and the social setting they are in might benefit from a bitch slap, but nothing beyond that is ever appropriate.

I always grew up thinking i was going to abuse woman cause of all my fighting with my sisters. Then I grew up and realized it was normal sibling rivlary :p

but a woman shouldnt hit a man and a man shouldnt hit woman.

But if for self defense, yeah a woman should get hit or something if you have no other choice. You got to do what you need to survive if it came down to that.

Dont think you can compare a women and a man in gaol in this instance....most women in gaol have murdered their spouse after years and years of violence...

most men in prison for violence against women arent there because they retaliated either.

I read a book called 'Killers' by Kate Kray a few days ago. She interviews some of the women serving life in the UK.

One killed a fifteen year old boy with a seven inch serated knife after an argument in which he called her friend a 'slut'. She was nineteen at the time.

She became popular in prison because of it, and has made friends with many women guilty of carrying out similar crimes.

I'd like to think I would never hit a woman. But who knows, some woman need a fucking good slap. Stan Collymore got vilified for punching Ulrika Jonson, but turns out she's the biggest monster in the world and she fucking deserved it.
