Sometimes i think I was born blonde... IJS... I've had this computer since November and never noticed the button on top of the tower to open the drive.

What I'm going to do is download a full non eMachine version of Windows 7 (eMachine bundles a bunch of crap in theres anyways) then use my Xubuntu cd and just completely write the OS to the entire drive and forget about the dual booting. That way if I get tired of Xubuntu over time I'll have the Windows 7 CD. I like Xubuntu. I just don't like not being able to dual boot when I want to.

When Ubuntu partitioned the drive it could well have placed the MBR in a location and now his hard drive does not see it..

The MBR has to be on the first sector of the drive. It may be corrupted, but it can't be lost...

man, i wish i saw this earlier... another alternative is to simply virtual machine the ubuntu installation (using virtualbox, for example -- my current favorite). you can full-screen the vm window, and voila, another OS desktop on your computer, without having to worry about the potential dual-booting fiasco(s).

So I'm back to Windows 7... I thought I deleted the Xubuntu partition during installation but now it's coming up with a dual boot screen. Strange. When I wanted it to it didn't. When I don't want it to it does.

What did you do to get back to this ?
