the early settlers were europeans though.
Wern't they also a bunch of puritans? Can't imagine puritans taking part in something as demonic as halloween!

There were a few religious groups that came here really early. I think you're talking about the quakers. They are boring people.Wern't they also a bunch of puritans? Can't imagine puritans taking part in something as demonic as halloween!

But they didn't have a lot of turnip. They did have pumpkins, native to North America, though.
Pumpkin ban in Halloween protest
Pumpkins have been banned from a Halloween festival - because they are considered too American. Instead, traditional Scottish activities such as a turnip lantern competition and dooking for apples will feature in De'il Tak the Hindmost.
There will also be a short film about a Templar Knight who guarded the Stone of Destiny for more than 700 years.
Organisers of the event at Scone Palace said it was their response to "American big business and rampant consumerism".
Jock Ferguson from Herald Events added: "We will be having none of that pumpkin or trick-or-treat rubbish.
"Pumpkins are banned and will not be allowed beyond the front gate."
As well as the specially-commissioned 'A Tale O' Twa Stanes' film, there will be a short drama featuring "deid Scotsman".
The Very Scottish Halloween show is being held on 27 and 28 October at Scone Palace.
Story from BBC NEWS:
Seriously! What a pile of shit!:mad
Halloween is a Celtic tradition thats thousands of years old. A pagan one.Well, didn't we get Halloween ideas from USA in the first place? That being so, if Scotland are against having the 'American' pumpkins, then why the hell do they have halloween at all? Talk about being hypocrites!!! :wtf:
England is not quite as fickle as Scotland - they do like their tradition a bit too much and are very difficult ppl to move on from things and try new things.
Why do they dislike Americans anyway? Too many issues there methinks - we love ya Americans though.

Wow, banning pumpkins. What next, banning skeletons and ghosts? :cool
Nope.Yeah, I thought pagans first came about in America though. Oh well.
Well, the Scots are very tight with money, or the spending of it as a rule (not all though), so maybe they got like that about pumpkins rather than admit they don't want to pay too much, hence the Turnips. lol
The'll never catch me I tell you, we're burning a cross tomorrow! Burn baby burn!!!:rockon::rockon:
