I was just watching a show about a Medium and how she speaks with people and their deceased loved ones.

Those just starting to get to know me probably have figured out that I don't like to dismiss anything but rather take in information pretty neutrally.

Having said that, I never really have had any personal experience with a Psychic, Medium or the like so I tend to lean towards not really believing in the capability.

Has anyone here ever met one? Knows one? Is one? Believes in them completely? Believes there is a chance that such powers could possibly exist in people?

hehehehehehehehehehe....... Miss Cleo didn't see em coming for her lol......

I've been to a few over the course of my life. Three of them were able to pick up on real stuff. Two downright nailed some things

I do readings for people. Apparently, from their feedback, I have a bit of talent for it. Unless of course, they're all blowing smoke up my ass. :D But I do offer to refund the money of anyone dissatisfied w/their reading and I haven't had anyone request one yet, so....

But I don't consider myself a 'Psychic'. My hubby says I'm more of an Empath.:cool

I think the biggest thing to remember w/it all is that it's for entertainment purposes. If someone tells you they need $25k and a tomato or something to remove a curse hanging over you, run like the wind out the door. No one can curse you unless you believe you can be cursed.

Many Moons ago I heard a tale back about a woman who tried to curse me out of jealousy and in the process her crystal ball fell off her table and hit the floor. If true, I have my female ancestors to thank for that one :ninja

There are people out there who can see/hear those who have passed on. I saw a couple of 'ghosts' when I was a kid. I haven't as an adult. Perhaps because I've learned to tune it out? Or, it just faded away as I got older.

I feel for people that go to a Medium and pay big money to get comfort from someone passed on. You can do that yourself. Just listen. Put your 'feelers' out there and just listen. They may come in a dream or a thought... Or the feel of a warm, comforting blanket being wrapped around your heart/soul.

I can see where it's a big money maker. Lots of people wanting answers.

For a Tarot reader, it's all about the shuffle of cards. If you go through the deck, you can take any card and make it fit if you chose to. Hence why I offer a refund.
One day I will flop. hehehehehehehehehehe...... It's a mathematical certainty:wtf::wtf: ;):D:ninja

Entertainment purposes only people....... It keeps it all in perspective.

I'm a sceptic. On the one hand I do sit on the fence a lot regarding spirituality because although I've never experienced the sort of thing that makes people believe, I'm open to the possibility.

Some mediums are full of shit though. I went with two friends to a theatre night with a medium once. She was famous, has her own column in a magazine and brings DVD's out, stuff like that. It was appalling. Everything she brought up was intensely vague and wishy-washy, and one a couple of people she got the details flat out wrong. A couple who's son had hanged himself were there and before she learned how he died she tried to make out like he'd slashed his wrists. When it came out that this was wrong, she backtracked to asking if maybe his wrists had been tied, or someone had pulled his wrists when they'd found him... it was a bit sad. Even the ones she did get right, the details were so vague or easily guessed that it didn't seem like much of a victory.

So yeah. Not much patience for a lot of them, because I do think a number of them are just preying on people who desperately want to hear from their loved ones to the point of believing anything they're told. I'd be fascinated to have a one-on-one with a 'proper' medium just to see how it went, as like I said I'm open to there being genuine ones out there. But on the other hand, no one close to me has died in some time, so it seems unlikely they'd be hanging around just in case.

My mom actually had a psychic come up to her while she was out last weekend. She told my mom about a bunch of things that had already happened, and some things to keep an eye out for in the future. The things she knew were pretty amazing, and since she didn't try to solicit a visit/money from my mom is reassures me she was authentic. I've always been a believer in both psychics and mediums, but I've never gone to see one. I've always been afraid of what they would say.

back in like 2005 or something that sylvia brown psychic was on montel (yea i was watching montel WHAT??) and someone said who will be our next president and without missing a beat she said "a black man" so i was like i can just wait till 2008 and find out if this bitch is for real...

and here we are

now im not saying she knows everything but i mean to me that was a pretty fantastic leap.

not saying im sold on the whole thing either way but i figure some people are really perceptive in daily life so its not a big stretch to think some people are more perceptive of certain things like the dead or such

Thank you for the response! Very good post.

There have been times when I just get a strange feeling out of nowhere and I picture that something is just about to happen and then it has a few minuets later. These are so rare that I just have dismissed them as pure coincidence ... but it makes ya wonder...

So what you are saying is that you do it completely for entertainment purposes or that its a mix of both entertainment and authenticity?

That crossed my mind too. One of the stories on this show was that a distraught Mother had lost her 6 y/o son from illness. Then the thought hit me ... How sick would that be to use this person's tragedy to make a buck?

WOW! Now that is crazy. To have someone just approach you out of nowhere and start giving information that sounds pretty authentic! Thanks for the post!

God, that's terrible, so sick that frauds like that would make money from other peoples grief.

That thought crossed my mind as well. Some people just seem to be more "in tune" with the "Universe" or energy as a whole that it wouldn't be too shocking if they did have some unique capabilities.

What I am saying is to not take a reading too seriously. You're assigning way too much to a deck of cards if you do.

If you're confused as to which way to go in life, a reading could help you decide which path to take. But they shouldn't be the decision maker. One must still weigh all their options.

I've found that they tell people things they already knew. Sometimes they help to give someone a nudge in the proper direction. But that person is the one to make that decision.

Like, I knew a chick once who wouldn't get out of bed until she'd gotten her daily horoscope on her phone. Really??? That's assigning a whole lot of responsibility to a Sun sign for the running of your life. Get your butt up out of bed and make your day happen.

I put serious energy into a reading as I strive to be as accurate as I can, but my customers shouldn't take them too seriously. Hence why I have been hesitant to raise my prices - even tho some clients think I should. Especially in this economy.

As for intuition, it happens :cool

A few years ago a friend had someone approach her at a department store, like your mom, out of the blue.

I forget the details...but it something along the line of a little girl following my friend. My friend told her she was out shopping alone, and the other lady said there was definitely a little girl with her and they started talking. Then the other lady described the girl but said not to worry, everything is going to be ok because she was with her...or again...something along those lines. She told her that whatever she's going through at that time was going to work out fine, the little girl was there to be sure of it.

Apparently the description she gave was of a friend my friend had in her childhood who passed away. Now my friend could have read into the description part of things...but a random person coming up and basically saying she has a guardian angel with her was pretty freaky. Oh, and my friend was in the process of going for all kinds of tests for a heart condition she had just learned about, and all worked out fine.:)

Basically it works like so.

Shawn Spencer is a great psychic.

Everyone else is a fraud.

I do think mediums are generally full of shit, but that's my own belief on dead people actually being dead, dead and buried and not speaking from beyond the grave, as much as thinking them to be frauds. I'd hate to know someone I like goes and pays money to go and see one of these charlatans. Psychics less so because I pretend to have psychic powers at times, it's cool.

Two, I think.

I'm much better at this in real life.

Last week for example I'm on the bus, and this woman gets on, chewing gum but I smell smoke on her breath. Obviously her boss at work doesn't approve of her smoking so she chews gum to mask it.

Ahhhh, okay, I follow what you are saying.

So when intuition happens ... do you feel any differently than normal? Is it kind of like picking between options and one of the options, for some reason, stick out to you more than the others?
