This actually could be in either Religion or Politics....HOWEVER....

It essentially is somthing turned political that irritates me.

Okay, our Govenor, Rick Perry is trying to push a bill through the state senate, allowing the State of Texas to make Anti Abortion liscence plates.

Now understand.....They would be specialized plates you would have to pay extra for, like the other plates we have for wildlife, Animal Rights, 9-11 etc.

However, My belief is.....This is where there should be a line drawn, I have no qualms with the state deciding about abortion being legal within its state boundaries, but I have an issue with them even advocating pro life OR pro choice, to me this is a clear advocacy by the state.

All this against the backdrop that Rick Perry was a yellow dog Liberal in his former life, before he saw an opportunity to get selected to be G.W.'s Lt. Govenor....It's a fucking mess, made worse by the fact that Perry has been a horrible leader to begin with...I mean horrible

What are y'alls thoughts?

Typically, doesn't a portion of that money from the sale of those license plates go toward said cause? Given it's coming from the state, I really disagree with that. No matter what side of the fence you sit on for that issue, the state shouldn't be involved in that fashion...so yep, I agree with you.

This is happening here as well:

Without dissent, the Arizona License Plate Commission on Tuesday approved the request of anti-abortion groups to get their own special state plate, one with the message "choose life." Officials of the state Department of Transportation said they could be available within two months.
Seems a violation of separation of church and state to me - but obviously i'm wrong, 'cause it be happenin'

I guess you don't have to be a church goer to be anti-abortion, so there's how it's done.

Ok, so where's the license plate for pro-choice? Or, anti-whaleing, or pro-death penalty, or anti-vegetarian, or pro-polygamy, or anti-greyhound racing, or . . . ? There are plenty (read way to many) bumper stickers on cars proporting people's views about EVERYTHING! Why does the state have to get involved in endorsing ANY of this stuff?

I'm pro-stuff!

leave it to the nutbag religious people to come up with a scheme like this

hell in MI they would not allow a person to have anything like that on their license plate

not trying to make this all about abortion but I am sick of this fucking issue being an issue. Why can not the anti abortion crowd worry about their own and let everybody else do what they want in the quiet of their own lives. Seeing how it it is none of their damn business to begin with

My thoughts?
Well I see all kinds of license plates here - from Chicago Bears to save a pet....
those aren't really political issues either
but if I don't buy them, my money doesn't go for them.
So if you live in the great state of TX and you aren't pro life - don't buy a plate for it.
Just like if you root for Green Bay - you wouldn't buy a Bears plate.

Definitely not appropriate. I wouldn't mind seeing a plate advocating foster care or adoption, though.

Gotta agree with you about Perry, too. :yuk

:D How do you figure that?

legislating "morality" should not be done.
I absolutely agree. This isn't, but I agree with your statement.

Clarify, please.

I was dropped on my head as a baby, thus I'm a bit dense :D
:)

How does advocating a pro-life stance resemble making a law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof?

It seems that today's society has taken a simple phrase saying that the gov't won't dictate religious practice and morphed it to say that gov't can't support anything that religious people like.

But where does it end?

I have no issue with someone having a Houston Astros license plate....You cannot compare the two

MI was talking about eliminating most if not all of the vanity plates.

Hey my honest opinion is...If you really want to support it...Buy a fucking licesne plate frame:D

However, I have no qualms with the typical specialty plates, just not the ones that advocate political issues.

I'm an avid gun owner, but I wouldn't support an NRA liscense plate...I'm just funny that way.

To me it is selfish to expect to keep our rights if we aren't willing to respect the rights of others to oppose;)
