Not read the link, but do you think those who avoid corporal punishment are somehow lesser parents?

Their rational is to follow the ethos of Jesus. i.e: not smack those weaker than you.

No; I was smacked very rarely as a child. However, if your child is acting out then spank them. Too many children get away with murder because there are no limits set. I've seen it.

Nope and really don't want them. A spanking is not abusive. My friend used to get the belt and he turned out fine.

And I'd be happy to engage in discussions with them about it. It's a complex issue that should not be approached from a position of righteous ignorance.

Thats my main thought. This is just religion trying to put their nose where it does not belong.

Yes but this topic has been discussed here to :horse and you will find that everyone has an opinion from "Beat the crap out of the snotty little rats" to "fill them with love and they will blossom"..

The problem is no one ever accepts the fact the problem starts with the parents and how problems and life is dealt with in the first place.. No way would they ever see themselves as part if not most of the problem.. Children learn from examples.. Few and far apart are those who have been terrible because they were BORN that way..

As a parent of two children, spanking, as a last resort, seems to work out well as a last resort. It was the same as when I was a kid. A few warnings would be issued and when those failed then it was a swat on the butt ... not with a item but with an open palm.

Typically, it is more of the fear of the punishment itself than the physical pain that causes spanking to be effective ... in my personal observations ...

I'm not expert and have never claimed to be, but I got a tap on the ass when I acted out.

So violence is the only way to discipline children?

"tap on the a$$" wow, talk about hands off approach to displine....not saying that fear is the answer either, but you can't let the kid rule the house.
