How come the name doesn't just show up automatically? I post on several forums and out of about 10 places I visit this one and another one are the only ones with the auto name feature turned off. Regardless (on or off) though, people always argue about it.

I think if you are man enough to leave someone neg rep .. they should know who did it. It's no different than in person and you disagree with someone .. no faceless voice shouts out arguments at you lol. (Plus, sometimes people forget to put their name when they are used to other forums doing it for them *whistles* :crazy: lol .. I've never given anyone on any forum negative rep though .. in my whole forum posting career. I just tell them how I feel in the open lol.).

From seeing other threads like this on other forums .. the grey/purple (depending on your monitor) box is for people who haven't posted very much (newbies). So until they have a certain amount of posts accumulated .. usually all of their rep (pos or neg) will be that color. Or that's been the consensus I've seen posted on most Vbulliten forums I frequent.
