The rabbit picture is cute, Alien Allen. Happens twenty times a day out here.

My poor dog and my poor cat endure the same torture.

I put the dog out on a lead run. She has about 30' of running area in a half circle. The rabbits know her limits nowadays! They will sit just outside her run area and she will run to the end of the lead and bark. They don't even budge anymore.

I swear one day I'm going to extend the lead to 40' and just watch. Damn rabbits! :)

do it :D

won't your dog come back if you call it?

I let mine out to chase the animals. She will come back once she hits the property line.

Our other dog I now am told can actually climb a tree when chasing a squirrel :eek:D

I really really want to.... but then once the dog gets the taste of rabbit... she'll never want to stop at the end of her lead before she chokes herself to death!

Our cat is now a 24 hour indoor cat only. Has been for a few years now. When he was outside.... he kept the rabbit population way down. Hardly a day would go by when he didn't bring a few catches of the day up to the front yard..... off the porch thankfully.... as an offering. I'll never forget the time we pulled into the driveway coming home from somewhere.... and there he was..... chowing down on a rabbit bigger than himself! It was repulsive.... yet I couldn't pull my eyes away. How on earth he consumed the whole thing is beyond my comprehension...... but needless to say..... he slept outside that night. Way too many times he would come in at night and sometime before daylight... he would throw up. Sometimes I would hear hiim..... other times.... I would be starting my day and step.... yes step..... gingerly I might add.... into a pile of....... God knows what....... :willy_nilly:

I'm so happy at times that he just looks out the window living the life of an inside cat these days. I'm sure his dreams are still fraught with rabbits, mice, birds, etc....... but the rugs are clean...... and I never worry about walking in the house in the dark these days....... :D

I'm very concerned about not leashing her at all times out here. Way too much wildlife and stray dogs cutting through..... dogs that have left their owners at the game area a few miles away. Twice since we've lived here..... stray dogs have tried to attack her. One time.... if she hadn't of been on her lead.... she would have killed the other dog!

When we walk the trails on the property.... I use a retractable lease. I'll let her go all the way out and call her back just to see what she does. She always comes back..... but I believe she knows she's leashed.... otherwise...... I'm sure she'd just sniff herself off into oblivion and not think twice about me.

When she spots other animals on our walks..... she gets excited and tugs the leash like mad. She weighs about 50 pounds now and it takes me quite a bit to get her back in line and listen to me and ignore the animals. Without the leash..... I just wouldn't chance it.

Gotta wear them out every now and then. My boys love to go to the lake house with us but they sleep for days after they get home. I love it.
