I don't get it... down south everything is COKE... and if you don't mean COKE, then why say it?

To be really honest though, when I delivered pizzas I would hand the customer the 2L/20oz and say "here's your soda" because it does sound better to say that than pop.


I guess I can just chaulk this one up to my being lazy and geography. Pop is shorter to say than soda... thanks to that extra syllable.

Sorry dude, but down here we call it soft drink - no Australian would ever say soda or pop, unless they wanted some Bicarbonate or they were calling their grandfather.

yeah. you have hard drinks (with alcohol) and soft drinks (without) and since many of us mean carbonated drinks by "soft drinks" the number 1 manufacturer in the world is the all-purpose use name in our region. coke is the stand-all name for any carbonated soft drink in the south. pop is a gay music culture that i have no intent of devouring through my digestive tract.

back in the 50's and 60's it was called sodapop and along came someone that started calling it pop. :dunno

Aren't the two terms the same? I call it soda... always did and I've never called it "pop".
