It's usually best to acknowledge others at first. Once people get to know you a bit, they'll acknowledge you more. Such is the way with forums. Was that way when I first started, and also when I came back a few months later. *shrugs*

I'm sure that she is new to what a forum is like, it's the hardest when you first start out because you want to be part of all the fun and get to know everyone. Also in forums, most people show their masks so it's hard to actually get to know the person, it takes a bit of effort and time, although in the time and effort you can find yourself some very good friends in the process. I know I did with a few members on here and there is a person that I can confide in about anything and talk to them about everything that is going on, that is something which I am glad that I stuck around

Getting to know people on a forum often takes a while. Already knowing someone on a forum is a leg up as far as getting to know the cool kids. Some of us just meandered in and looked around for a long time before actually attempting to contribute.

Oh yeah, already knowing a member in person or from another forum is one of the best ways to get comfortable easier since you have someone there to help you get to know the others.
I'm a lurker myself, you probably wouldn't know it as well since I only come out and play with those I am comfortable with online.
