Usually when you aim straight at the sun/moon it is so bright (illuminated) that the sun/moon looks washed out/too bright in pictures .. where you can't see any detail .. kinda like when you stare at a light bulb and then look away or use a flash too close to someone.

It's called "blown" in pictures.

lol could actually be .. might have served as a "filter" of sorts. To get a picture like that .. you normally have to use a filter .. so that just might be why! cool
