Most photographers would want to take pictures of ... um... say ... fly shit on the wall at 100 paces or in the alternative some sort of landscape stuff or... naked women in the highrise across town.

OK you had me in tears laughing with this one line..

When I saw this Lens I thought might as well go Telescope then Lens..

This is more suited for a Cheap Paparazzi then a photographer.. Hey I think I know someone here who can use this.. :24:

Nifty 50 and hood I'm sure gonna get. Extenders--> scratched off the list. Thanks for all the input :thumbup

I only have the 28-135 mm lens atm. If the 70-300 mm is not good- what's the most advisable lens I should buy for landscape shots?

Depends on what you want to shoot. Most photographers shoot with Wide Angle lenses, that is lenses that have a focal length than 20mm, but don't ever get fisheye for landscape

:eek You got me. :p

Looking at what that ebayer is offering, I doubt this will disappear any time soon so it will give me time to hunt around.

As Tuffy said, the best kind of lens is something in the range of 10-24mm. I'm not saying you'll find a lens for that range (10 is approaching fisheye and quite extreme) but as long as the wideangle lens fits in that range somewhere, it will be fine for landscape shots.

A beta version of Lightroom 4 has been released, it is very heavy on the download (max 411mb). No serial number is required AFAIK, but that is because I have the previous version of Lightroom, so don't rush to me saying it needs a serial number etc (I don't know of any serial number, plus won't be giving my serial number)
New things: Video editing and few more silly things like the Map module where you can put in the EXIF info where a particular photo taken eeek, I don't need that Map module and the ability to make a Book or if you want to make a PDF via the Book module

No idea of the release date though I really don't care much about either of the new stuff so far, lol, so might not get it and stick to my Lightroom 3 :)

I would never use a zoom lens for a landscape shot and not even a 35 mm lens unless it is a holiday picture for/or a memory.

I would, but a wide angled lens at least 16-35mm or 17-40mm would suit me nice for landscapes :p I really hate those circular fish eye lenses...just dreadful

Zoom lenses do (still) not have the quality compare to non zoom lenses other than for a snap shot...what can still be very satisfying for most people. Zoom lenses do have a advantage but not in landscape as you have all the time of the world to use a normal lens to gain that extra quality.
Besides all that..... format is also a big choice.Thinks Adams landscapes on 10X8 plates are unbeatable...;)

Define a normal lens?

It depends on what you are shooting. I could easily get good focal angle with a 17-40mm there is no prime lens that go below 24mm, you would have no option but to get a zoom lens
16-35mm and 17-40mm are zoom lenses with wide angles, that is what you need for landscape. I admire Ansel Adams, but those 10x8 plates would cost a fortune if you got it wrong

A normal lens is a non zoom lens LOL...I agree Adams work is almost insane and from a different level. I have still done it and made many shotz with a 10x8 although they were not landscape but advertising pics.I also agree for extreme wide angel you need a zoom but like I said you need to give in on quality. In a prime lens they can put better glass than in a zoom.Becarefull with that extreme zoom, even for landscape it makes thing to small and false out of proportion.I still prefere at least medium format for a decent landscape pic so you can forget zoom all together.
Just a personal opinion.I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years but never shot any landscape or pretty pictures so my advice might not be any good if it comes to that.

So what is your niche in photography?

I still don't get what you mean by "normal" lens, do you mean prime lenses, because they are not zoom lenses?

Good tip here, don't suffer from "photography diarrhoea" as in taking as many photos as your memory card can handle

I don't think I've ever suffered that - always had time to get the pics off the camera before that happened. I guess if you're not watching the card, you could conceivably miss a crucial shot due to this though which is what I guess you are referring to.

I many respect there are certain types of photography such as sports where you have to shoot off like a maniac, but then again it all depends on the situation. I think photography diarrhoea refers to don't shoot off like a maniac without thinking

What you say makes sense.

But how about those of us who are practicing and wanna make sure we wanna get a good shot?? As @ times we're not so sure yet as to what we're doing and are not able to see well from the shots thru LCD what is good composition, exposure or what not until uploaded on a computer ??

Advises of photography workshop facilitators is to always carry an extra memory card. Another advise is to get as much pictures that one can after pre- setting composition, aperture, ISO, shutter speed settings- compare all the shots so given the chance next time to do similar shots, one knows already in mind what works well.

I have taken from a subject sometimes many pictures but know excactly when I press the button that is the one.Very seldom do I discover afterwards the right pic on a pc.

I take several pictures. I don't just fire off randomly and hope, but I will take more than one of whatever it is I'm trying to capture, just to be sure I haven't tilted the camera or something. I figure it never hurts to have a back-up, and I've never taken enough to actually fill my memory card in one session.
