This might potentially sound stupid - but is there a way to leave the polls anonymous?

There is, you can choose when you make a poll. I think these are kept public though for.... some reason? Possibly to avoid any nefarious activities.

Yes there is but we prefer them public to make sure that the photographers don't vote for their own picture (t'is a no no). :)

Okay continuing on stupid-question track... but why does that matter? Technically every photographer could vote for their own picture, and it would be a wash on the voting outcome.

We've had one or two public picture polls in the past and there haven't been any objections to those. So I decided to ask all of the hosts to make every poll public. It's interesting to see what peoples' various tastes are for one and for two, it keeps voting above board and free of any vote rigging.

Dunno. It's been a rule for these things ever since I joined here. I've never questioned it because it really doesn't make a difference to me.

Even when a poll is made anonymous, as an admin I have a way to check and see who voted for what if there is an issue. Personally, I have no problems w/ people voting for their own pictures if they GENUINELY think it's the best of the bunch. I have voted for my own once or twice in the past, before it was suggested that it be a no-no. ;)

As the 'organiser' I should say that I don't personally mind people voting for their own pics if they wish to. The votes still count
