It never fails to amaze me at how petty some people can be.. and about some of the stupid stupid things.

When I talk to people, I always call them Darlin', Sweetheart, Doll, Hun, Something along those lines.. its just how I talk to people... Like.. Anything else I can get you Darlin'

How Can I help you Hun.

A habit I have from.. well from my mother for starters, and my Aunt, They always talked like that.. and years in the service industry has added to the habit of it.

And Today, I got Reprimanded at work Because a Customer complained because I called her HUN... I dont know, I dont understand how that is offensive...

So I am no longer allowed to address any customer in that manner.

People are so freaking stupid and petty :confused

I don't mind it if someone says that to me. I kind of like it. It's sweet, endearing. Makes the customer feel a connection, a bond.

I just hate it when I don't get a haircut for a while, and then get, "Will that be all ma'am?"

Yeah we was told at one of our meetings awhile back that we werent allowed to address people like that cause some people find it offensive. How? There is not a thing offensive about being polite!

maybe it was an older/younger thing...some older people get offended if you don't address them as an elder...i think its totally stupid, but ya...they get insulted sometimes and feel like you are speaking to them like a child when you use terms like that if they dont know you.

on the other end of the spectrum I like being called sir. Everyone treats me like I'm 11. It gets annoying being bitched at for stupid shit when I work my ass off at work.

[/mini rant]

( ^ Well now I know how that thread got started ^ )

I think she wanted to be called mam. I also think you did nothing wrong and your boss is naive if he/she thinks you did. You were courteous in your own way, that should be good enough for anyone.

Stupid moany old hag whose life is so boring that's the worst thing she's got to moan about. Next time say "will that be all, you old cunt?" If she moans tell your manager that in Ireland people call their mates cunts and she's being racist if she moans!:D
