Pedestrians

We know pedestrians donnot have the legitimate right of way at all times, they're just supposed to get away with it...

But, should pedestrians be responsible if they get hit by a car if they're in the wrong?

I think they should because we cannot wipe the asses of every idiot in the world...there's just not enough resources!
 
True story

Back in the late 60's or early 70's my parents were in Acapulco and saw a guy hit by a car.

The guy was thrown in the air and came down running.

They asked what the hell is up with that and were told down there a pedestrian is at fault.

I think in the vast majority of instances a pedestrian has a lot more control over their actions versus a driver and they should be responsible.

But then I am a prick.
 
Damn! It's hard enough when I'm driving to put on my makeup, answer my cell phone, balance my coffee and donut, look for garage sales, etc...... How can I be responsible for a pedestrian? Sheesh! The can see me a whole lot better than I can see them. I mean... If I see one and it looks like they are getting too close to my car for comfort... I'll lay on the horn for 'em. :)
 
a jogger ran out in front of my truck this morning at a residential intersection where i didn't have a stop sign... and she just looked at me like i was a jerk and should know she had the right of way.

anyone that knows me here knows i wanted to run her ass over just for showing off.
 
A thirteen year old boy rode his bicycle out in front of me. I hit the brakes and swerved but the corner of my car still hit him. It threw his bike up in the air and he rolled down the side of my car. Thankfully he got up and walked away. A bystander made him lie down and an ambulance took him to the hospital to check him out. He was fine and outside running around the next day when I went to see him. The cops didn't hold me responsible and I didn't have to pay for his ambulance ride or ER visit.
 
In my area, if you attempt to cross the street, especially a parking lot to walk up to a store, be prepared to DIE. People don't stop, they don't slow down, and it's common to hear people speed up just to get you to haul ass out of the way or wait.

There's no such thing as "pedestrian right of way" where I live. When I'm in Toronto I freak out because people will just come out of nowhere and cross...I'm always terrified I won't see them and hit them.

It's a two way street, in my opinion. Pedestrians only have to look out for cars. Drivers have signs, lights, other cars, pedestrians, animals, pot holes, ice etc to watch out for. Both should have courtesy for that imo.

I love people who blindly follow the "WALK" signs across a busy intersection WITHOUT even looking to see if an idiot driver doesn't realize they have the right to cross.

Two way street. Idiot pedestrians, idiot car drivers. Always look out for yourself.

You shouldn't have had to pay for damage to your car, either, imo. Legal crosswalks are there for a reason. If a pedestrian is crossing illegally then they should be responsible for the damage. Parents should be held responsible for the damage their kids' do.

Stay out of Franklin then.......... There are two of them in town........ Somebody will get hurt because the way they work is the pedestrian has the right of way and cars are supposed to stop before the crosswalks. They have a sign before the crosswalk indicating this. People assume drivers are aware of the sign and will step out into the road without giving a 2nd thought.

If there's a crosswalk and a sign I always let people cross. Can't speak for others though, I was just at school and a guy cut me off. He skidded into oncoming traffic to avoid me but a pedestrian was crossing (sign and lines on the road) he nearly hit her and blew his horn in anger like SHE was the asshole :rolleyes:

My problem is only when there isn't a sign or lines...like in Pontiac, where people have no fear and will just play frogger with you. I swear these people WANT to get hit.
 
If I'm driving I think I should have the right of way and everyone should get the f*ck out of my way.

If I'm walking I think I shouldhave the right of way and everyone sould yeild to me.

So if you see me coming whether on foot or behind the wheel, be prepared.

The impact put a couple small dents in the side of my car. His parents didn't offer to pay and I was just so happy the boy wasn't hurt that I let it go. But if he would have been my son I would have offered to pay for the damage. And probably taken his bike away for several months. He would have had to do chores to pay me back. Even so, I hope he learned his lesson. He tried to ride his bike across a busy street with a 40 mph speed limit without even looking. It wasn't even an intersection. He was coming out of a parking lot. I didn't see him until it was almost too late. He could have been killed. One of the bystanders told me his guardian angel must have intervened. I don't believe in guardian angels but I understood the sentiment.
 
If a pedestrian gets hit by a car and it's their own fault, the damage and likely death they experience is punishment enough. I've never seen a person get hit by a car and walk away is a better state than the car so the point of the op is irrelevant.
 
They shouldn't. The masses of society think the more dangerous and productive people should have all the responsibility. It's as if we pick up the slack for the idiots in society we cannot throw away, so we're stuck carrying their lack of sense in our driving habits.

Drivers shouldn't even have to look out for pedestrians because they're not supposed to be in the fucking street. And when they are, there are STREET SIGNS (The ones drivers are supposed to pay attention to) to let us know there are possible pedestrians in the crosswalk.
 
we have a law that we must yield to pedestrians in cross walks but that doesnt mean they should be assholes about it. if a car is coming its best not to try to cross just cause of the law. its alot easier to wait instead of a car going 40mph to stop in time. that could cause accidents with the cars behind us ect. cause Pa law says the pedestrian would be at fault if the car coming is not at a safe distance away for the pedestrian to cross.

if they are stupid enough to cross when a car is close enough to hit them. they shouldnt bitch when they get hit if they survive. cause if i stop intime they are getting the horn and the motherfuckin finger
