Here's a bit:

"The House Appropriations Committee proposed Wednesday to kill the James Webb Space Telescope, the crown jewel of NASA’s astronomy plans for the next two decades.

The telescope, named after a former administrator of NASA, is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, and it was designed to study the first stars and galaxies that emerged in the first hundred million years or so after the Big Bang."

As Atlantis gets ready for it's last flight I see this headline and think we have billions for war, billions for bailouts, billions for foreign nations. But money to further our knowledge? Zilch.

How quaint that we will now have to depend on other nations (Russia) to get to space. How far we have fallen. :(

Perhaps this panel will think twice? ppffftttt.....

Well it's about damn time they stopped spying on you :p *lame joke*
Yep, when times get tough, learning/culture/exploration goes out the window. Idiocracy isn't too far off.

That's apparent lately.

Who needs knowledge....

This country doesn't value education very highly, it's rather sad. Our values are much more material and ideological, and the political choices made reflect that.

I'm sure many would call space exploration frivolous spending in these times.

It's a real shame that we don't. People don't realize that education is one of those things that pay big dividends. The better educated our country is the better we ALL do.

Well, we could reference George Carlin talking about how our Owners only want us smart enough to do our jobs efficiently but not smart enough to sit around the table at night figuring out how badly we're getting fucked.

Obedient Workers do not need Critical Thinking Skills or Open Minds. They just need to be obedient sheep w/blind faith.

I miss George.

Speaking of George, I came across this link that has the bit in it:

That's just a small bit from his HBO special a few years back. He got quite scary at the end of that show - not in the clip.... I think I liked him better when he wasn't sober... Then again, truth hurts when you ain't afraid to say it.
