A Pakistani Christian couple have been sentenced to death for blasphemy after allegedly sending a text message insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

The couple, named as Shafqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar, were found guilty of sending the text message to the imam of their local mosque.

Allegations of blasphemy against Islam are taken very seriously in Pakistan.

Several recent cases have prompted international concern about the application of blasphemy laws.

It appears as if they are citizens of Pk so should have known better...but yet is this just?
My concern is if you dont like the religion of culture you have to remain silent or face huge consequences.
How many would not be Muslims if not for these strict laws?

The nine month old baby charged with conspiring to commit murder comes to mind.

Im curious if a muslim entered this thread and stated they thought there should be no punishment ...if that would also be blasphemy and put them in danger.

Blasphemy laws in Pakistan since colonial days are for the safety and protection of minorities there. Amazingly more Muslims than Christians or Hindus have committed blasphemy and rotting in jails.

Like all laws blasphemy laws are also based on evidence and witnesses....and tried at law.
................

Charging a 9 month old baby for murder by our police made me laugh....
Our police is most corrupt and you may not be afraid of a criminal as much you are afraid of them!!

true but my reference to the US is for general representation of developed countries . It may not

specifically relate to Canada but indirectly Canada too supports the US policies...as if they are cousin. But I understand that
Canada is a country better to live in than the US where all types of evil groupings are busy disturbing not only the peace of the US but thw whole world.

If Canada didn't have long killing winters I might have moved to Hallifax where one of my net-gal friend lives and wants me to to embrace her lovingly!!

Both claims sound like bullshit. Pakistan has over 96% Muslim to start with.
Your clergy probably has trouble finding enough non-Islamics to persecute.

With what Man posted and I pointed out, that's not very reassuring as far as justice goes, mazHur.

How about beheadings and stoning?

Our police is most corrupt and you may not be afraid of a criminal as much you are afraid of them!!
Not surprised, they are only doing what your terrorist politicians and clerics demand of them.

As stone said Pakistan is mainly a Muslim nation.
Sources show about 4 percent of the population is non Muslim but are catching half the charges/ showing a high ratio per capita for non Muslims being charged.
Also those who try to get the law repealed have been executed as well.
One is essentially is a prisoner of Islam in some nations as speaking out is a crime and often punishable by death.
Truth is you and others can not speak freely on the matter due to fear..I know I would be in fear and speak of how great it is if I resided in nations with such harsh laws.
A non believer has to essentially put on the act they are a firm believer or risk getting caught up.
Our prisons in the USA provide more freedoms than the streets of Pakistan..
I know you cant agree even if you do due to the strict laws in place in Pakistan..I know I would do nothing but praise Islam on a public internet site if I lived in such a nation with such harsh laws.

Obviously you are living in a fool's paradise...Pakistan is different than Saudia and no one beheads or stones anyone here for any crime.

Your criterion of justice cannot be same as the state laws.....
When in Rome do as the Romans do or you are surely going to get it.

Are you really insane?? Why don't you admit that democracy is run by numbers?
Pakistan is a democratic state and everyone has the right to vote but laws are made by majority vote and that is fully democratic. A minority has equal rights as other subject to Constitutional laws...why would a democratic state allow minorities to make laws or propose such laws which oppress or undermine the majority??
There is no sense in your argument.

When you post bullshit, I'll call you on it as I have done.
Your terrorist culture beats and murders it's wives and women, and eats babies.

Interestingly , you posted in another thread of the dangers of liberal fascism.
All you are promoting in your post here is another form of draconian fascism, Islamicist style.
Your argument is merely the rationale for your culture's depravity.
Your Pakistani culture is simply a religious facade of monsters.

Go ahead, now it's your turn at denial :D

You aren't fooling anyone, mazHur.
You are only looking foolish.

( you weren't addressing Man's comments )

Anyway
Pakistan's form of government is not a democracy.
Pakistan's form of government is a republic. And those forms of government do not allow their populations to vote on legislation, their elected representatives do that.

And as far as being a democratic society ( http://dwatch.ca/democracy.html ), your culture seems to kill off dissention, and that's not a trait of a democratic society ;)
For a republic to reflect the will of it's peoples, it's society needs to be democratic.
Pakistan simply fails in that regard, mazHur.

Your nation is simply a nation of terrorist, wife beating baby eaters.

My post was pointing out the fact that muslims make up 96 percent of the population but half of the people charged with blasphemy are non muslims.
Out of the muslims charged you will find it is a related to Islam...and not to Christianity.

True, Saudi's have very strict rule of law..their Law. As long as you abide by their law in their land no one will dare touch you.

In Pakistan, there is lack of rule of law and you have to save your ass yourself.
That's the situation created by counter productiveness of war on terror...
a few decades ago foreigners would roam about the country freely,,safely and without any fear. But now it's most unsafe for foreigners .....damn the warring nations!!

Muslims are forbidden to puke against Jesus and Bible....or Moses and Torah or Talmus. It's you Xtians or mad liberals messing up with Muslims which is the rootcause of all the trouble in this world!!
