If someone broke into your house and your dog ate him, you could get sued. Not a good dog to have right now.

I highly doubt thier case would go very far. We have a fenced in yard with "no trespassing" and "beware of dog" signs. If they are stupid enough to come through the gate after that, they deserve to have thier balls eaten by whatever kind of dog. To be quite honest, Im more of a threat than my dog is because I'll shoot any thieving MoFo that even steps foot on my property. No questions asked. I CAN NOT and WILL NOT tolerate a thief!!! We have a long driveway and are fairly secluded except for the neighbors. You dont get to my house by "accident". Anyone coming up my driveway knows what theyre after. I dont know about where you all are but here in Arkansas, if you catch someone breaking into your house, you have the right to shoot. The catch is that you had better drop em dead INSIDE the house. If they make it back outside after youve shot them youre a screwed pooch.

same in GA, but if you shoot them in the back or it is noticable they were trying to run out, it is considered murder- bs, i know. our neighbor's pit bull up at the lake broke its chain form the front yard and attacked my stepmom for no reason when she was going for a run one morning. maybe the dog was pissed about being tied up (hell i dunno) but the damn thing attacked her b/c she was walking our dog on his leash. pitbull probly saw our dog free, got mad, broke chain, and attacked stepmom.

Unfortunately I don’t think that is necessarily the case anymore....I think horse's scenario is more the norm now a days. Criminals have rights too….didnt you know??? I recently read two stories where the person committing burglary sued the person that lived in the house he burglarized and won!!!

The first is about a man that jumped a fence…not a chain link fence, but a 6’ wooden privacy fence. They owner had several ‘Beware of dog signs’ and locks on his gates. He was totally within the limits of the law, how they should and used to be. The owner had 2 dogs, I do believe pit bulls, that attacked the assailant crippling his leg for life. I guess he had to have it amputated. He sued the homeowners and actually won!!

The second is a burglar that climbed onto the house and ended up falling through a skylight that was in the kitchen. He apparently fell onto a knife, or something sharp that had been left out. I think it was a knife that was not inside the butcher block, but ended up cutting the man nearly fatally. Because the knife was not put in its proper place, that man actually was able to win a lawsuit as well.

WTF is wrong with this country?????

See, these people screwed themselves. I woulda finished the sorry bastards off myself then called the morgue instead of an ambulance. Then they wouldnt be around to hire a lawyer. Chances are, they probably could have been finished off and dumped and noone woulda missed them. People like this are of no use to society anyways.

Bossman, I think you are ok in Arkansas. Most people in Arkansas know that if someone breaks into you house, they need to die.

I dont want people to think Im some stone cold axe murderer or something. But I do tend to act on impulse and Im sure you all could guess what my first impulse would be if I came home to a crippled up burglar in my living room. Id have to step over him and go straight to the gun cabinet. Hell, for that matter, I might just drag his sorry ass out to the road and let the buzzards have him. :dunno

Re: RE: Outlawing Pit Bulls

That is certainly how it should be....we need to be able to protect ourselves!!! Unfortunately maybe we're not as free as we think we are.....

Here are a couple of products of some nasty people....it is in how you raise the dogs....and these could not have been raised but to fight. A story to fuel the fire...

Its sad to hear of any of these stories. I own a Chow...which actually have worse reputations than pits. I couldnt find any home owners insurance that would cover me owning a Chow. Instead of generalizing all of these animals, they need to survey the owners.

It is easyer and cheap to just to not cover all chows and pitbulls. I don't blame them. People will throw their dogs in the backyard and not train them. They don't know how and don't have time.

Now before you all start with the DAMNN thats an old thread thing I was about to post basically the same question.. and rather then dup a previously started thread.. I just bumped this one...more or less..

So lets have it.. Are you pro pittbull or not?

Me personally I tend to agree with its how you raise them.. here in Nebraska we just took the 1st steps towards the Humane Socities (SP??) allowing for pittbull adoption for the 1st time in Nebraska history..

I'm for pitbulls and any dog in general. I agree with the it's how you raise 'em argument. My uncle has a doberman and it is the sweetest dog I've ever met. On the other hand had he not raised it right it could have been the meanest s.o.b. in the world.

Lovely natured dogs, I know a few people with ones. It's dog fighting the government needs to be stamping down on, not the breed of dog. The slap on the wrists people get given for running illegal dog fights are rediculous!

Pit Bulls can be great dogs, maybe a background check on the owner would be a step in the right direction. Generalizing them as a bad dog is just stupid.
