Outlawing Pit Bulls

Okay, here in Arkansas, they are seeking a ban on Pit Bulls. They are talking about getting a proposal that would allow owners who currently have a city dog license or who can get one before the ordinance goes into effect, get to keep their dogs , but they must register the dog by allowing Animal Services to tattoo it for identification purposes.
Unlicensed Pit Bulls brought into the city after the law takes effect would be illegal and could be criminally prosecuted.

Okay, this is where I have a problem. We have a Pit Bull and have had her for like 5 years and she is one of the best dogs I have ever owned. She is a fine, loyal dog.
And I think all Pit Bulls would be the same way if they were all properly socialized. Some people dont properly socialize their dogs and encourage aggression and thats what gives them a bad name.
In fact, Pit Bulls have a better disposition than a Golden Retreiver.
I think this new law is just plain crazy.
I think my whole point is, I think I can own a dog of any breed if I choose to, just like I can own a gun if I choose to.

Well I think its because usually the only folks wanting pit bulls are in the market for a mean dog.... so they raise the dog mean.

Thats exactly right. Its how you raise them. We have a Chow....if you dont know him, I'd highly recommend you not come in our house when were not home, but in all honesty....hes a super big baby!!!

My neighbor has a couple pits. Biggest babies I've ever seen!!!

Dumb ass people that don't know make laws like that. Here in GA they want to ban kids from driving until they are 18. Its all in the kid. I was a good and safe driver when I was 16. I am safer and a better driver now, but you have to learn sometime.

Our pit bull is such a big baby. She is so protective of our kids. In fact a couple of years ago, our house got broken into and they broke our kitchen window to come into the house and Cheyenne (our pit bull) slept in front of that window for like a couple months straight.

One of my dogs is a chow and pit bull mix. The most prissly thing but she is also very friendly and nice. My little cousins play with her all the time.

im not taking a side one way or the other, but understand that certain dogs (pitbulls included) are indeed capable of more damage than others. whether becasue of instinctual disposition, or because of sheer strength, i see the point of the people who would see them banned. (again, im not siding, just pointing out)


the arguement about the dog's behavior being in the hands of whoever raises them, well - yes it makes sense, but thats the same reason we have gun licenses. guns arent dangerous unless the wrong people have them. same deal here.

I wouldnt trade my pit bull for anything! When we first got her I was real uneasy because I had heard so many stories about them. But we've had her for 4 yrs and has been so good for 4 yrs straight. In fact, she ran away last year for a couple of days and I got upset about it because I missed her. She really is a very good dog.

If someone broke into your house and your dog ate him, you could get sued. Not a good dog to have right now.

Welp, they shouldnt be invading someones privacy. That would be his own fault for breaking into my house. I dont think we would be sued for someone else breaking the law!

well, why would the people who have them do the bitching?? theyd just get rid of them (thus becoming part of the people who dont have one) and THEN start bitching. like you said.

Well, if you owned some minitaure dog, you and your family will get hurt because you wont have a dog thats protective of your family. I would much rather be alive to be to be sued than to be hurt or killed by a robber because my dog went and hid under the bed or something.

I highly doubt thier case would go very far. We have a fenced in yard with "no trespassing" and "beware of dog" signs. If they are stupid enough to come through the gate after that, they deserve to have thier balls eaten by whatever kind of dog. To be quite honest, Im more of a threat than my dog is because I'll shoot any thieving MoFo that even steps foot on my property. No questions asked. I CAN NOT and WILL NOT tolerate a thief!!! We have a long driveway and are fairly secluded except for the neighbors. You dont get to my house by "accident". Anyone coming up my driveway knows what theyre after. I dont know about where you all are but here in Arkansas, if you catch someone breaking into your house, you have the right to shoot. The catch is that you had better drop em dead INSIDE the house. If they make it back outside after youve shot them youre a screwed pooch.
