opinions please!!!!!!!!!

anyways this just blows the "everyone is equal" out of the window. Ovbviously women still aren't equal to men if they feel that they would be able to judge us by our looks and besides with regards to it all what is the message the media are trying to portray because they say size 0 out but everyone needs to stop being so fat!

I'm just curious, but what exactly is your point?:D

my point is that there are many reasons in which young people are pressurised about their body image and im trying to find out the route cause for it thats all......and im investigating the media and their portraying of celebrities i think that it all aspires to celebrities but i guess its not that......

Hey that's cool, from outward appearances it looked like you argued every point that was made though:D

I think that if you want good marks you should perhaps focus more on why children/young people are succeptable and draw attention away from who is telling who to not be fat... It's not just peer pressure...

Pioget for example - how a child defines itself by its experiences, and if those experiences are of looking pretty or being mean, then that willl influence them.

Discussing the validity of the media and celebrity is good. Is it the sole reason or are the parents to blame, is society in general. You can't just say the tele/magazine made me do it.

thats a good point. I have to do it on 10-19 years of age. I have found that yes children are affected by parents behaviour if a mother is wieght obsessed it does get passed down generally to children. But why is the mother obsessed whats her reason for it. I cant say its all the parents fault due to the fact that there are many reasons but again why is the world obsessed with weight? Why is there a constant strive to be thin its all idealism but why is thin so ideal?

Thin is ideal because it is a sign of verility in women in the west, to look gaunt and pale was considered sexy in feudal times... white make up and the likes. I think that celebrity and the media only magnify a problem that is already there. If society in general sees thin as attractive (more so on the subconsious level) then there is going to be underlying conflicts of mind. (This is all as a whole, there are of course exceptions that prove the rule)

right so i now know its been around for ages and ages but would you say its at more of an extreme level nowadays people are starving themselves and are getting life threating conditions (bulimia and anorexia etc.) There is more of a call to be thin and beautiful?

This is where the media comes into it. The widespread message of other peoples ideals and opinions, or generic views of the masses. We are all aware of what makes one attractive and we know the opposite. Then we have it forced upon us, onto all of our fragilities and all of our misnomers of self. We are not directly told that we fat or thin, ugly, boootiful, we facilitate what the media and celebrity say into our own neurosis. Without the media, the feelings would be there, but perhaps we would not act on them so much... Out of sight out of mind only works without the presses.

so hows about your opinion on when we first see a celebrity either from a childhood career or from the 1st day they come into they are usually thin and then about a month or two or even when they reach teen years they go on a crash diet to be skeletal? (Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Nicole Richie, the Olsen Twins, Keira Knightly etc...)?

case in point..victoria beckham,,ask everyone here (UK) what they think about her appearance and youll get the same answer..looks like shite
so how does she cause people to starve themselves?and she is the queen of celeb after all

personnally id like to feed her with chips and cheese for a month, get her tattooed and pierced, dress her in black and then she may be a good influence on others appearance;):D

or even the actress that plays Michaela in Hollyoaks or even Kim Marsh/Ryder who stars in coronation street? They were both once quite normal but are now both smaller with regards to their weight?

Unfortuantly those in the eye of the media are going to have to pertain an image that the media want to see... You think that the masses have it bad about how they look. One thing different, one things wrong, and it's front page news. They are trying to attain an image of perfection, yet always falling short. It sells.

The celebs are making us thin, they are just as much a victim as you, you, or even that fellow over there...

thats actually quite funny. But there are some teenage girls who feel she is beautiful if you visit thinspiration sites....unfortunately i have to visit them in order to find out about my media topic or even if you visit you tube its all on there. They are horrible some do believe that she is great however i do agree she should be feed with some chips. Im in UK so i do know some people that think she is great but most think she is yuk, but then what about girls aloud there all terribly thin? or even desparate housewives cast?

Well, there seems to be evidence of that. Magazines don't sell if they tell you that your just fine the way you are. Emulation of celebrities is always going to be an issue, as children often relate through mimicry, therefore, celebs have a lot to be accountable for. However, these famous people are stuck in their own little world of attaining perfection and desperately trying to look better than the ‘other’. They look to the media for inspiration, the very same people who are telling us that we need to emulate celebrities, a vicious circle... However, like everything in psychology, it's just an opinion.
