opinions please!!!!!!!!!

if there wasn't any thin celebs then where would they get the inspiration from? theres many ways to look at this but from my research i found its mainly looking at these "attractive women" that get other women to want to be like that. So it orignates with the celebs and is enforced by looking sexually attractive and then by looking the best out of other women they know.....

so people/women are risking there lives because we are viewed as an object to please men?Well that just shows us how society has really moved on?But again there are men or young boys who also suffer from eating disorders and body images and this is getting more popular and not just in the gays guys but in the straight ones too!I mean i found the route cause for it in women but why men?

...but from my research...
If you've researched already, then why bother asking the question if you're going to try to convince us that our opinions are wrong? If this is part of your "research", what's the sense in saying that a person's opinion isn't what they say but rather what you think they should say?

its not its an argument that im trying to solve your opinions are being very helpful i can use them its just i have to challenge the opinion in order to find out more opinions if that makes any sense? i need as many opinions on all this to find as much research as possible to find out what real people think about the obsession in this world to be so thin??

...to find out what real people think about the obsession in this world to be so thin??

1) because the medical community has said that thinner is better, I am not saying anorexic thin, I am saying weight-proportionate-to-height thin

2) because there are a better selection of clothes

3) because you can fit in one airline seat

4) because men prefer weight-proportionate-to-height women

and not because of the celebrities...the celebrities are just in the public's view doing what other women all over the country do. They are not a cause. They are simply more visible.

i wonder though if celebs are not the cause then why do women strive to be thin and i want to find another reason than men, becaue i personally think that the media set the standard and cuz if there were no pretty women to look at in glossy mags then the men would have less of an idea as to what is "attractive" so who is to blame?

Not really... cause Men don't walk round and think... oh that random girl is attractive because she looks like so and so.

Everyone has a different view on what they class as "Attractive". That's why you rarely see a celebrity dating a non-celebrity. Men can't set there standards as high as a celebrity.

I personally don't look through magazines to get an idea of what's attractive. I'm with my girlfriend for more than just her looks...

so who is to blame?

THE MEN!

Would you listen? The media put in the magazine what the men will BUY. It's all about the money. The media use the celebs to put the crap in the magazine because the men will buy it because that is what they want. If the media didn't put "the pretty women" in the magazine, then no sales. The media don't give a flying fig what is in there, as long as it sells. Right now...thin and pretty sells, so that's what they look for and encourage. But it comes down to the consumer, which I already said and you won't acknowledge.

Hello, I'm not sure that the celebrities themselves are at fault, I think they, like the normal who walk among us are the result of a hype, a mass hysteria if you will, though the media.

The whole idea of self is under threat from all quarters, as soon as you are old enough to read, you read how to be beautiful. So when a child is still learning their ideals, values and opinions as well as developing their own proprioception, along comes someone who 'knows better' They must, as they are on the front of a magazine, thier proprioception is altered through distorted images and airbrushed bodies, beauty within is totally ignored.

Parents then submit to this, they see the images of beautiful children, well mannered, multi talented, they then don't use real psychology, they submit to misused pop psychology, thus worsening the problem. That very same misuse of pop psychology is also the object that is telling their children to dress like a slut and to lose weight, or to treat women like objects and to use profanity.

Instead of listening to Jung, Szasz and Maslow, the parents pawn off their own psychology from cosmo, and other glossies. The child then reads Cosmo girl, or male equvilant and other trash designed to make the child feel bad on a subconscious level. It’s the perfect way to make sure to buy the next issue, which may have inside, the cure. It is an age old trick, make them feel like shit and they’ll come back for more. A light at the end of the tunnel.

Nowadays there are a lot of cases where in a relationship partners get jealous or very paranoid of their own partners being around the opposite sex. or other attractive people? Its not a fact but there are probably more people nowadays who find it hard to trust people. if that makes sense.

Dont buy magazines, dont give a shit about celebs. What am I doing wrong? On yeah, I'm part of that sex called MEN!:smiley24: Can we discriminate against peoples colour now? Can we say someone is bad because they are black? Didn't think so!:smiley24:

i do acknowledge and i know thin and pretty sells it has for a long time but im saying where the hell did thin and pretty start and who started it? When we were apparently hairy monkey creatures do you think the male species cared whether you were thin or not? Someone has to have started it. I still think that the critics/media are to blame due to the fact that they print it and they decide what the targeted audience will and won't like. The person who printed the 1st pretty thin women ie. the media did this to see if it would sell they have to make experiments in order to find out if it would sell in the first place. Men encourage it but the media finance and produce it

Its all about the money but the effect in which it is having on society is where you have thin or fat not many people ever class themselves its either one or the other. With regards to height and weight that is still drastic to me because to even fit that you still have to be quite thin because i have tried that and i find it impossible because i have weighed 9 stone with my height and still been classed as overwieght.

anyways this just blows the "everyone is equal" out of the window. Ovbviously women still aren't equal to men if they feel that they would be able to judge us by our looks and besides with regards to it all what is the message the media are trying to portray because they say size 0 out but everyone needs to stop being so fat!
