One year of happiness . . .

i would rather try and make my current living situation better, rather than spend a year doing shit I would never remember. just me personally, though. I would just rather remember the OK times, rather than forget all the best ones.

If you could spend one year in perfect happiness but afterward would remember nothing of the experience would you do so? If not, why not?

:)

I could do this right now if I had enough crack.

And NO, I would never consider it for two reasons.

1. I would miss out on not only a year of my life, but a year out of my loved ones life. ie the first year of my sons life
2. I'm already as happy as anyone could be... I am very content with life right now :)

But you would just go back to depression and all the other hardships after, sooo.

I think of it this way. The scenario is as follows:

I am single, have no kids, life sucks.....I will die, let's say, in 50 years. Do I choose 50 years of a sucky life or 49 years of a sucky life and one year of happiness, forgotten after that year? I choose the 49 sucky/1 happiness. Obvious choice.

Still, whats the use if you have no memory of it? What if nothing long lasting happens like you getting rich etc etc?

Many people drink to increase their happiness, yet they don't remember everything that happened the next morning. That doesn't stop them from drinking.

<has a glass of wine to increase my happiness>
Mmm.

Good point.

>>>Remember to keep the vidcam on yourself the whole night/morning so you can relive your drunken happiness later! :D

Hey, that gives me a thought: What if you videotaped your whole happy year? Would those videos magically disappear after your year of happiness, too?

i wouldnt take it... and shitty as life is sometimes, as least i know i'll remember everything... good or bad, you still learn something new
This is my line of thinking as well as it is in those sh*tty times that we grow, that character is built, that we are made stronger. It is in these times that we truly appreciate the good times.

Also I would never want to miss out on a year of my families life; seeing them grow, laugh, get promotions, going to their band concerts, their sporting events, etc. And what if one of my loved ones fell ill, got hurt, or even died during that time? No, I would want to be there. I would want to remember our exchange. I would want to remember holding them and loving them.

Good point Grace, but if that did happen, it wouldn't be such a good year after all, huh? :)

Unfortunately your year of happiness does not guarantee a year of happiness for everyone else as well.

It does if thats the way you live your life. Your original posted question is flawed then. If you didn't remember the year after you lived it, then it never happened, thus it was as if time stood still. So, in essence you missed out on nothing.

You can twist this scenario anyway you like it, but you'll have to be more specific when you ask a question like this, like for instance, stating that others around you will remember the year you were gone off living the high life. You only asked if we would take the year of bliss if only we wouldn't remember it.

But everything and everyone you encounter would be a happy interaction, right? And everything you do?

Otherwise, there is alot missing from your intention of happiness for a year.
You would be happy just as the OP states. People are assuming that just because they are in a state of happiness for a year that everyone else has to be in a state of happiness as well for their own happiness to take place. No one should assume this. What one considers happiness may vary well not be happiness to another. All you are promised in the OP is happiness for a year. That's it.

And remember folks it just a hypothetical question to enjoy some conversation. Don't take it so seriously. ;)
