The death penalty is not a deterrent. So it won't matter. Nobody who commits a crime thinks they will get caught, or they are too desperate to care.

Death penalty isn't a deterant, crime statistics prove this.
If the penalty for speeding, even 1 MPH over the limit (KPH for you Pete ;) ) was death, would you speed? I doubt it.

We measure in MPH too, think you're confusing us with the Aussies, something you Americans seem to do on a regular basis. :p

Oh, and speeding 1mph over the limit is hardly comparable to killing people.

His point.

Your head.

Either that or you're just being too damn stubborn to acknowledge it.

Ok, put it another way - Do you seriously think that if someone is so fucked up in the head they will murder someone, they will worry about the consequenses first?

- "Hmmm, I want to murder someone, oh, I'll get life in prison for it so I'll do it but I wouldn't if I was going to getthe death penalty, life in prison's no problem though"

Most people that turn out to be serial killers don't have common sense and some are two fries short of a happy meal in the first place. They're not going to care about the death penalty vs life in jail in the first place.

These people that maliciously kill innocent men women and children are nothing more than a drain on society in one form or another. Why should I have sympathy for killers in jail if they didn't have sympathy for the people they shot/stabbed/etc?

 Where did you get that I said you should have sympathy for them in prison, here? I was just talking about the death penalty not being a deterrent. :confused

I never said you said that, why do you keep thinking I'm putting words in your mouth? :dunno I was simply asking you a question and making a point. I don't have sympathy for those useless fuckwads who do bad things to innocent people.

In addendum, those who are saying it currently is NOT a deterrent are correct. In its current configuration (endless appeals, difficulty for conviction) it is not a deterrent.

Would you prefer a fundamental Muslim type system then where people are executed very easily?

I wouldn't, but I would like to see someone get the ONE appeal they are allowed.....Then taken out and shot.

Perhaps on Television:unsure:

I don't agree with everything about them, but Muslims have a relatively low crime rate...You ever noticed that:D

I just find it kind of ironic that the people who slag off the Iran regime ect are the same ones who want to see more executions and stepping nearer to those kind of laws they have over there.

Not everyone who supports the death penalty have one thing or another against any regime:unsure:

My only issue with it, is that I wish the state would call it what it really is....Retribution

Plain and simple, they aren't preventing anything with it, they are getting even and playing God, that's all I wish they would say, and I'd feel much better.

Frankly, in my honest opinion, there are folks that shouldn't be free to walk the streets again, death penalty has been ruled okay in my state, so I support it. Simple as that.

I know it sounds cruel, but hell, in Texas, we killed all the injuns and Mexicans to get this land.....I mean, face it.....Early settlers.....Were terroists:unsure:
