I don't go shopping on Black Friday. But I don't see a difference between standing in line all night to get the latest hot toy or standing in line all night to get concert tickets. Both have actually turned into a kind of social event like tail gating. The stampeding part is crazy. Although that can happen at a concert too if the everyone gets excited enough.

No, not Care Bears. But yeah, they were a serious rage. I'd have to google em. They're fur bears and they were high-end. Not Paddington though. From somewhere in Vermont perhaps? The late 80's I think? They were adorable but at at least $100 a pop, thank you, no.
Do you mean Vermont Teddy Bears?

DK, watch the vid again, what kind of panic is the guy inciting? He's saying to reject Black Friday & pay attention. You can't do either if you panic.

I always marveled at the BF thing. If that's the time that most businesses realize their greatest earnings of the year, indeed if that's what brings many of them into the black after being in the red all year, then it stands to reason that the prices are still well above the wholesale prices they paid to stock the stuff.

If people would just stop and look around every once in awhile, they'd be able to resist the herd mentality. Unfortunately it takes effort, and effort isn't real high on people's Christmas list.

awwww..... That's a cute bear too! No, it's not Vermont bears. I searched 1980's collectible teddy bears last night and searched through the images and couldn't find the ones I was thinking about. Barrington bears are close but not them either. So, I guess they weren't as popular as I thought eh?:24:

Indeed, resisting the herd mentality takes effort.

Also, I was going to mention getting stampeded at rock concerts last night (Led Zeppelin comes to mind). But didn't. I do remember being in front of the stage for Cheap Trick back in 79' or 80' and as soon as they came on stage the mass of people that surged forward pinning my girlfriend and I next to the barricade. We had our feet up on the 'wall' and the crowd was holding us up. We ended up getting pulled out of there by security before we got squished. The benefit was we got to see them 'side stage' which was even closer.

Yeah, gotta watch the herd...

I worry about the future as far as my stepson is concerned. His mother has declared bankruptcy twice. The last time she bought gobs of items before doing so. I hated that, I hate that Evan wants the latest everything. I hate he has to have name brand clothes. I grew up poor, I'm one of the least fashionable people you could meet except I get my cousin's clothes and she's fashionable.

I do worry about Evan and hope with all my heart he doesn't turn into his mother, because he's in for a very hard awakening. He'll always have a home, but it won't have designer sheets if he comes to live w/us.
