But the debate was never about fetal stem cells, the debate specifically talked about embryonic stem cells.
The cells from 7 to 10 day old blastocysts not from aborted fetuses.

Again, same difference, the industry has found a way around the problem with a virtually limitless supply. Only federal funded research uses these types of cells.

The libs, who else. Seriously, if there was money to be made by using stem cells from an abortion who do you think we would hearing the loudest from? I posted an article at the other site from the president of one of these start up gene company and, in essence, his position was and is, who cares!

You absolutely love pushing this idea, don't you? fetal stem cells are not the type that promise the best chance at a break through. It's the embryotic stem cells that have nothing to do with abortion. But I guess if you don't have a good argument against it, just throw out the word abortion and that should turn away the ignorant and uniformed from the conversation.

This endless supply wouldn't be adult stem cells, would it? They are not the preferred source since they present a rejection factor that isn't present with ESC's. This would be a major roadblock to any hopes of mass producing any type of treatment since the adult stem cells would need to come from the potential patient.

But his point is that if there was money to be made in this--i.e., these cells really were the holy grail of biotech as it is made out to be, there is no way the religious right would be able to stop it. Like oil--as soon as the price went up, all of a sudden everyone wanted to drill. Economics always has and always will drive this stuff--I know liberals hate that, but that's the way the world works, right wrong or indifferent.

Mulder is correct, the point is that IF abortion cells were the only way to do the research the bio-tech companies would be screaming for their use. I'm not pushing any idea; the erroneous position is that stem cell research can't be done without cells from abortions, that is factually incorrect. The position from the liberal camp is that these types of cells are needed, which as you have pointed out and which I have pointed out is incorrect but it sure allows the libs to beat their chest and claim a holier than thou attitude.

My second point which seems to escape you is that those in the industry have made the determination that the use of such cells is not going to lead to the medical treatments being promoted by the uninformed. They have no use for them. Get it? If there is going to be federal funding the research is going to be done by NIH and the like because private firms see no eventual profit in it.

For people still pondering why he is being so aggressive, I believe I posted it, but most EVERY president will be the MOST aggressive immediatly, and become more bi-partisan and conformitive as it comes closer to election time. Even if he gets re-elected and wont be eligable for re-election, he will do the same thing so that the Democratic party does not look poor or incapable.

Apparently, Obama thinks it's a good idea to STOP the progression of domestic oil production. Yeah, nice job, let's let the environmentalists win again at the cost of $$$ at the pump.

Also, more stem cell research? I'm not sure what the rest of you think about abortion and stem cell research, but to me, it's murder. Just wish other people would see it that way...

So far, I'm royally disappointed with Obama. :willy_nilly:
