Found this on the web.

PolitiFact | The Obameter: Tracking Barack Obama's Campaign Promises

Probably as important than whether the promises are kept or not is the list of promises itself. It definitely shines a light on what Obama sees as the responsibility of President. For instance, he promised to phase out incandescent light bulbs so that consumers will save money. Huh?? :eek That's my decision, who or what to waste my money on ... or at least it should be.

Damn you Americans are backwards, we've already phased them out. Why would you have a problem with that anyway, would you rather have much more expensive energy bills or something?:confused

Let demand phase them out. There's no need for legislation. Congress has more important things to waste their time on.

yeah lets phase out the old light bulbs so we can use the new ones that are considered hazardous waste.

Special handling instructions for breakage are currently not printed on the packaging of household CFL bulbs in many countries. The amount of mercury released by one bulb can exceed U.S. federal guidelines for chronic exposure.
The hypocrisy of the EPA on stuff like this is mind boggling. No actually it is just the EPA and the feds in general ignoring some things while attacking others depending upon their agenda. Such bull shit.

Obama doesn't need to keep any promises......

All he needs to do is hold up a picture of GW and they all go "Oh yeah.......What were we thinking sir, carry on"

Not one single fucking ounce of outrage from any Democrats over the earmarks.....Not one lobbyist has been set on fire and shoved out into Pennsylvania Ave. duct taped to his chair yet

So you want higher energy bills then? :confused
No, but that's got nothing to do with whether we need 400+ legislators spending their time/my tax money on the decision. I can make that decision easily by reaching out my hand and grabbing the other bulb next time I go shopping.

Like everything else there is a trade off was my point. I can see this as being viable at a school or a place where there are a lot of lights but at home I just do not see where the savings is going to be noticeable.

These things are more expensive and they are going to cause a problem with disposal. So I guess the question is whether the cost savings are going to be worth the pollution that will result.

We are going to be higher energy bills anyway. I hear several reports that if cap n trade passes one can expect their costs to go up $1,300 per year. It is a cleverly disguised tax.

Brings to mind an old Alice Cooper song.

Welcome to my Nightmare

No outrage from Republicans either, other than the one that's been screaming for years.

Besides, that's last year's business. We'll get that out of the way THEN change things.
Yeh right.

No, these things are a lot cheaper . Seriously, do you want your country to fail or something? Seems like it with the petty shit you harp on about!

Where does it stop?

should they tell us to go to Burger King instead of McDonalds for example?

it is a matter of choice. Why should we be forced to do something.

from what I can find the bulbs are twice the cost

This is the culutral divide between Brits & Yanks. Not only do we not need gov't to do for us, we don't want gov't to do for us. We LIKE making our own decisions, making our own mistakes, celebrating our own success and learning from our own failures.

It doesn't matter if might help or even save money. It's not the government's place to make those decisions for us. It's not the government's place to make ANY personal decisions for us.

And this explains why you want more expensive energy bills, how? :24:

There's no law requiring us to buy incandescent bulbs! We can buy what we want. They are both accessible. As people figure out which is cheaper, demand will naturally phase out the more expensive option.

What don't you get?

The fact that why it's not more convinent and cheaper to everyone to stop selling the expensive energy use ones and only sell the energy saving ones. Why do you want to pay higher energy bills? This is about the third time I've asked this and your answers still havent given a valid reason why you are so opposed to it.
