for starters i would like to congratulate russia and qatar for winning the vote to host the world cups in 2018 and 2022.....if in any way there is proved to be corruption involved i retract that

now look at a few facts

F.I.FA has a long history of changing things to suit its own needs, one of the most recent was during qualification for this years south africa world cup,one of the leading football nations in france were heading for 2nd place in their group and a play-off lottery with 7 other nations.......so mr blatter and his french cohort platini decided that the only thing to do was change the rules mid competition,so they conspired to seed the 8 teams on the basis that france in qualifying would take more paying fans, excuse me though, they had to play ireland in the new seeded play-offs,ireland would have took loads more support to africa than the french did

money talks

in russia and qatar we have 2 of the worlds wealthiest nations, growing rich on gas and oil, ones massive so travel is going to be a nightmare, and ones so small that finding room for the 12 new stadiums going to be very interesting..ok,russia has a football history and might put on a good tournament, but,if you watch any big game from russia you'll notice that half the crowd are soldiers....is this going to be the case in 2018?,but qatar could prove a disaster for the world cup,its one of the worlds lowest ranked football nations, its never qualified even once...now the question has to be asked,F.I.F.A.likes the host nation to at least qualify from they're group, and yes, qatar will be a no1 seed as the hosts...how are they going to manage this?...are a more worthy competitor going to lose out due to dubious refereeing decisions?

i've even heard stories of a 'whistleblower' from within F.I.F.A......if its proved that money changed hands during these decisions surely the result has to be in doubt, there would have to be a re-vote with different executive members casting the votes

heres a video of the buffoon blatter

It's all getting pretty pathetic imo. Of course it was all pretty dodgy but the way certain media goes on about it, it just makes us look like wingers and bad losers and is frankly getting boring and repetative. We didn't get it, it probably wasn't fair but ffs, it's not the end of the world and just move on for christ sake!

Time to move on, sure it may have been fixed but let's just worry about who's getting it. As I said, I have no problem with Russia getting it as I'm pretty sure with the money they have there will be enough to build new stadiums, infastructure etc. Qatar I'm not too sure about, I'm sure with the money available the stadiums will be more than adequate at least.

But yeah, time to move on.

Well we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I actually thought England's final presentation was somewhat pathetic, you had David Beckham nearly crying his eyes out, Cameron acting smug, that young lad going on about how football saved him (Newsflash : FIFA weren't interested). In fact Prince William was the only one who came out with any credit.

that would be because it was a done deal a long time ago.....the whole voting process was pointless

I like Blatter, he's a bit of a legend.

He loved his South Africa experience. But then, I too love limo's and five star hotels and watching the world cup final from a directors box.

You only had it in 94 and didn't show much interest in it then, think Australia deserved it more than you. Would still have picked USA over Qatar though!

Oh yes, I fogot about that one.

It was great when the winter olympics came to Lake Placid. Granted, it was before my day, still neat to have it in upstate NY though.

That's why we set attendance records, right?
the irish americans went to see ireland alongside the travelling 20'000 real irish, the italian americans went to see italy alongside the hordes of real italians, the same could be said about most nations that year........media wise it was a flop though, basically they couldn't get their heads round a world championship competed for by different countries

and when charlie sheen stated that he thought liverpool would win it i nearly fell off my seat laughing

The one thing I don't get is...that FIFA's chief (not Blatter) has said it was the accusations of corruption that hurt our bid. I could understand if the allegations were true, but I don't know about you lot, if someone accused me of something false, I would laugh it off it wouldn't bother me one bit. Maybe that is just me

Wouldn't be the first time, Columbia were unable to host the 1986 world cup, Mexico got it.

Come to think of it, it would seem more likely even if Brazil were unable to fulfil their responsibilities, that it would be given to another South American nation. (Granted Mexico are North America, but you get what I mean)

I would have thought so, as they like to give each continent a turn. And it's unlikely it would be allowed for two European nations to get it two world cups in a row.

Actually.

On 7 March 2003, the world football body FIFA announced that the tournament would be held in South America for the first time since Argentina hosted the 1978 FIFA World Cup, in line with its policy of rotating the right to host the World Cup amongst different confederations.

In the end only Brazil ran for it, Argentina never put a bid in and Columbia pulled out.
