People do it ALL the time in Miami. I see them walk all up and down South Beach with these crazy ass exotic animals, mostly snakes and parrots, but I've seen chinchillas and shit too. Live in Miami for a year, you won't think so much is crazy anymore, LOL.

The other day while out mowing, got under some heavy trees and while backing up the mower by a tree, something caught my eye and about 2' above me in a tree was a black snake. Scared the living crap out of me. You could be amazed at what they can climb.
That said, snakes are like any other living creature put on this earth, they have a reason for being here. I'd argue that most snakes are good for the environment due to their dietary needs. That said, I usually don't feel as guilty if I run over a copperhead out back as compared to a black or other non venomous snake, but generally speaking, ANY snake would rather not bite a human. Except for some cottonmouths, they can be outright aggressive IMO.
Usually when there is a issue with animals, somehow it's due to man and his actions.

Cottonmouths are just like any other snake. There's no record of one chasing anybody down and attacking them, lol. If you poke at one, it will coil and hold it's ground often times. Keep messing with it and it will strike at you. Maybe that's what folks mean by "agressive" - but I've never run across one that didn't crawl away.
We have a snake out here in oklahoma called the "Diamond Back Water Snake". I saw one crossing my driveway one day and of course, I had to check it out. It's a facinating snake that will flatten its head out when frightened to make itself look like a venemous snake. It was far more "agressive" than any water moccosin I've come across. It stood it's ground, and struck at me several times while I was checking it out. But it crawled away as fast as it could as soon as I left it alone.
I knew I shouldn't have read this thread...that damn pic now has me sitting at my desk with my feet up under me. There's NO snakes around here, but I hate even seeing pictures or them on tv...hate, hate, hate them!!!
Oh...but Dana, I thought the same thing, I saw a guy walking down the street home a couple of years ago with a snake wrapped around him, nearly killed myself trying to get a pic and text my friend 2 cars ahead of me to see if she saw it too, lol. Crazy ass people.
And I can't believe not one guy here made the comment of walking around with a huge trouser snake...

You will find that the water moccasin is more territorial than most other snakes you'll come across.
My own experience is that they will come towards you unlike most other snakes when not provoked. One could argue that is why they may be considered more territorial than other snakes LOL

Give me a break Joe, lol. You know where I'm from and you've (hopefully) got sense enough to realize where I grew up is the water moccosin Mecca. Their legends are epic. The childhood tales are burned in memory of fishermen falling into cotton mouth nests and being bitten to death, lol.
It's all old wives tales. I grew up fishing in rivers and lakes in Georgia and have ran across every venemous snake there is - and the one thing me & those snakes had in common was we were both afraid of each other and just wanted to be left in peace.
Now if you want a pucker factor of 10, let a canebrake rattle snake fall out of a tree into your boat on the Ocmulgee River. :eek LOL - people have sworn snakes will "jump into your boat" - but what happens is the snakes see's the boat and tries to flee and accidentally falls in the boat, terrifying all parties involved.
One summer at Lake Lanier, we were renting a lake house, and all the kids and cousins were swimming off the dock and having a good old time. A cottonmouth swims right by with a fish in its mouth. Didn't attack anybody, but boy did people spazz out.:willy_nilly: Good memories.
Don't let all those story telling southerners get you to believeing all those old wives tales. Nothing is funnier to a southerner than making a snooty yankee believe a snake tale.

Ha, funny true story from a few years ago... I'm copying + pasting what I wrote about it on another forum cuz I'm too lazy to re-type it up
This is a picture of a snake that was found crawling out of my boyfriend's car when he took it in to get the brakes checked. It was about 5 feet line and was coiled up inside the (wheel well? I forget what it's called...) When the mechanic tried to get it out (with his hand like an idiot)... it bit him. Luckily the guy was nice about it and took this picture.
Apparently it crawled up against the warmth of the engine. The thing that's funny is how it stayed in there fine without falling out, even after a 70mph drive down I-95.
